A cult is starting – BMTH are back!

Tags: band cult album

What does it take to motivate a lazy idiot to write a new blog? Bring Me The Horizon teasers that’s what.

No, for real, I am currently working on a company I started for my internship – MyBookStore – focusing on helping independent writers publish and sell their books and this is taking all my time and energy. But that’s just excuses, and I am way too excited to not write a quick post about the news around Bring Me The Horion‘s return. I hope you enjoy this short post and please let me know if you have any suggestions of what I should write about next!

I think we are in this cult for a long time already but okay

I’m gonna dive right in. This billboard is one of many that started popping up in Europe a while ago and later in the US. You can probably notice the BMTH logo in the top corners which seems to transform into a new one (which is now the profile picture of the band accounts on all social media). All of this was a sign that a new ear for the band is getting closer, but this was just the start.

Those posters also started appearing in Europe and US shortly after the billboards and I believe they indicated that we are getting closer to hearing new music and entering the new era. You can probably notice there is a hotline number on the bottom of the poster. And yes people tried calling it. And they got an answer which confirms that new music is on the way and BMTH really are getting ready to start a cult. God damn, if you have been to their live shows you know that the cult has been going on for years now, but nevermind. Here is a recording of what happens when you call the number. You can hear a preview of a new song in the end. And that is marketing at it’s finest, I have to say.

A more detailed promo recording is also available.

The smart people on Reddit also found a hidden website promoting the Album or a song – http://joinmantra.org/

Why does this remind me of the way Twenty One Pilots announced the first singles of Trench. I have to admit this way of teasing music is definitely working because the social media and music magazines were obsessed with the Twenty One Pilots teasers and cryptic messages (and now the same is happening with BMTH). Their storytelling took concept albums to a whole new level. So watch and learn Bring Me The Horizon. But for real, this type of marketing is the real deal if you want to promote something big.

I really like this way of advertising since it shows that a lot of thought has been put into the creation of the new music and if this doesn’t make you excited I don’t know what will.

Well, isn’t that badass

Today the band also added a story on their Instagram page saying: “It begins – 7 pm tonight BBC radio one”, which probably means a new song is coming out. Tonight. All of a sudden. They also changed their Facebook cover to the same picture as the time approached. Based on the teasers and previous interviews with the band I think we should expect a pop-rock sound with more singing and fewer growls by Oli, but who knows. In any case – the hype is real!
Also, the people on Reddit (seriously, how do you do this, guys) found out a secret show that the band is playing on the 21st of September in Paris. Check it out. There is absolutely no information about this show anywhere, expect the website for tickets which is really strange, but I am guessing it will be a promotional show for the album.. or the official start of the cult?

A little bit about the album – my speculations

If you read the text at the website and call the number you will notice that a lot of what it says is referring to religion and speicficaly fanatic religion and … cults. Based on the personal expereince of Oliver Sykes, the lyrics of Sempiternal (House of Wolves to be specific) and everything the band stands for and stigmatizes I am almost 100% certain this album will be heavily dealing with the topic of religious cults and their ridiculous believes and (sorry) bulls*it. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing aginst religion, but I do have a lot against fanatics who take this way too far. Also, pay attention to the disturbing sounds in the recording – it seems like someone is breaking things up and bothering “the cult”. Indication that the band is about the rip those people apart?

Bring Me The Horizon has been aggressively attacking religious fanatics who believe that “You don’t need to think, you need to believe. Only prayers will save your soul” and this kind of nonsense and I think they finally decided to take this fanatism and use it as a concept for their own benefit. I believe starting a cult means exactly joining them on their mission of opening the eyes of fanatics and crushing religious cults. It is kinda genius to do this by starting a fanatic cult yourself, isn’t it? In any case, the album is sure to be a conceptual one (just like That’s the Spirit was dealing with depression and anxiety) and most likely religion will be even a bigger part than it was with Sempiternal.

We are about to find out soon enough anyway and I personally cannot wait to hear what the band has been preparing during their break from touring.

I really enjoy seeing that the band is ready to come back and to be honest I like their “pop-rock” sound of Sempiternal and That’s The Spirit way more than their early work so I am excited to see what they come up with this time. And a tour. Please, a tour.

This was a really quick overview of what we know about Bring Me The Horizon‘s upcoming album (probably called Mantra) and what I believe it will be about. The new song should be out by tonight so let’s see where this goes.

To be honest, I wanted to write a similar post regarding Twenty One Pilots teasers and cryptic messages prior the release of Jumpsuit, but I never got to it and now it’s too late to speculate anything. I kinda regret it, but at least I pulled myself together for this one. Hopefully, more post will come soon. Thanks for reading!
