HTC U12+ with Quad cameras, Snapdragon 845 Launched

After plenty of rumors and leaks, HTC has today finally launched its latest flagship smartphone – the HTC U12+ for the global market and expected to arrive in India early next month. The smartphone comes with the price tag of £700/€799 in Europe for the 64GB storage variant and $799/ $849 in the US for the 64GB and 128GB storage variants respectively. The smartphone is available for pre-orders starting today.  It comes in Titanium Black, Flame Red, and Translucent Blue colour options.

In terms of design, the HTC U12+  have a candy bar design with glossy curved back and curved edges on the corners. There is a dual Camera Setup at the back, lined up horizontally, along with a dual-LED flash and a circular fingerprint scanner below the cam setup. On the front, it seems to sports an 18:9 edge-to-edge display with quite thin bezels on either sides. The display does not have curved edges or the top notch like most of the current smartphones in the market. The top bezel houses the dual front camera setup while the USB Type-C port along with the speaker grill sits on the bottom of the device. The volume rocker and the power button is placed on the right edge while the SIM tray is on the left. Notably, there is no 3.5mm audio jack available.

The HTC U12+ comes with the updated edge sense 2 technology, the device now supports more gestures thanks to new sensors. For example, users can now open the “Edge Launcher” with a gentle double-click. This is a cog in which users can save desired apps and call with one hand. In addition, the buttons can be laid on the display. In a special one-handed mode, users can now zoom out of the screen. In an app, you can assign “Edge Sense” for appropriate functions and adjust the pressure sensitivity. The feature is compatible with all apps these ‘squeeze’ gesture can be customized by the user for whatever action they prefer. It can also use a “short squeeze” as well as a “squeeze and hold” for more functionality by activating the advanced touch mode. HTC’s Edge Sense can also be used even with gloves on.

HTC U12+ Specifications

The HTC U12+ runs on Android 8.0 Oreo operating system with HTC Sense UI on top of it. It sports a 6” Quad HD+ (2880 x 1440 pixels) Super LCD 6 display with HDR10, DCI-P3 and sRGB support and protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top. The smartphone is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core coupled with Adreno 630 GPU. It offers 6GB of RAM and 64GB/ 128GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 2TB via microSD card.

For photography, the HTC U12+ comes equipped with a dual rear camera setup with the combination of a 12MP primary camera with f/1.75 aperture, 1.4μm pixel size, PDAF, Laser autofocus, OIS, and dual LED flash along with a 16MP secondary camera with f/2.6 aperture and 1.0μm pixel size. It can record 4K videos at 60 fps and 1080 slow-mo videos at 240 fps. On the front, there is another dual camera setup which includes two 8MP sensors with f/2.0 aperture, AR stickers, and Real-time bokeh effects.

The HTC U12+ is fuelled by a 3500mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging and wireless charging support. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4 and 5 GHz), Bluetooth 5, GPS with GLONASS, NFC, and USB Type-C port. The smartphone is also an IP68 certified for water and dust resistant and has a fingerprint scanner at the back.
