Social media Giant Facebook is all Set to Launch Two Smart Speakers by unveiling two smart speakers this summer, according to a report. The devices codenamed Aloha and Fiona are provided with 15-inch touchscreen display equal to the size of a laptop and will feature video chat and other social features.
The report suggested that both the smart speakers will be supplied by LG and assembled by Pegatron as a contact-based manufacturer. Among both the devices, Aloha is more sophisticated as it is expected to come with voice and facial recognition features and to assist these features it is likely to come with a front-facing camera having a wide-angle lens. Thus, it will be little costlier than Fiona and may be sold under the name Portal.
As the market for these smart speakers is very widespread and is continuing to grow, so it’s an excellent sector for companies to establish their presence. In 2015 Amazon had launched the same category called Amazon Echo which offers the same features and has a 7-inch touchscreen display for $230. After the successful establishment of Amazon, Google Home, it looks like Facebook wants to get on the smart speakers’ bandwagon.
According to the sources, Facebook is rumored to have partnered with Sony and Universal Music to feature some music functionality on the speakers. Yet it is not clear, whether the devices will support some popular audio streaming services including Pandora, Google Play Music, Spotify, etc.
It has been rumored for several months that Facebook, the Social Giant is going to launch its smart speakers in May, but in order to make these devices more accurate and responsive; the company pushed back the timeline to July. Still, we all are in rumor zone as Facebook has not made any official statement regarding the information.
