5 Useful Tips For Bloggers I’ve Learned Along My 6 Months Journey of Blogging!

Hey there dolls! I hope this post finds you well and the sun is beaming for you today…It’s Spring Time around most parts of the world and what a time to be thankful and reflective. There are SO many things to be thankful for and SO many reasons for you to be proud of yourself for waking up each day and trying continuously. Today marks SIX (6) months since I’ve started Lena Dee XO!! Like Hot Damn! I can’t believe it either, boy does time fly. This calls for a celebration, am I right? *calmly reaches for the wine bottle*

Yes! As I reach for my glass to toast not just to me, but to all of you guys who’ve inspired me along the way and help me keep writing, keep sharing my stories and most of all keep believing in my future self! I’ve experienced a roller coaster of events that left me feeling quite broken, and with my blog I get a sense of belonging.

I feel like I’m doing something right and I was able to bring my vision to life. So again, a very special thank you and cheers to many more months/years of joy, inspiration and something beautiful!

Now enough of the mushy stuff lol. I get tons of queries about blogging and almost every day someone at home, work or maybe somewhere unconventional, is thinking of starting a blog or has just started their journey. I remember when I first started, I had so many questions and didn’t know anyone to ask so I tried a bunch of research and ended up confuse lol until one day I just went for it & that’s my golden tip: Just Go For It!!

My first post ever was short and a little cheesy but it was a start and a reminder of me putting the pieces together for my blog. So hopefully if you’re reading this I can offer a little advice and 5 useful tips that I try to bare in mind when blogging.

1. Time Management

I put this as my first point because I want you to understand that time management simply means managing your time to the BEST of YOUR ability. Yes, blogging does take up a lot of time, because it’s not as easy as it looks but you eventually find your rhythm. You are the CEO, admin, model, sometimes photographer and SO much more! It’s time consuming but so worth it, so it doesn’t hurt to decide on set days to share your post or to right your content.

HOWEVER, do NOT beat yourself up when life happens and you can’t make a deadline that YOU set. The best part about owning a blog is that it is yours…Do not pressure yourself to think that you’ve failed when you can’t get a post out because you have a university deadline or maybe you’re taking care of your sick child or perhaps the 9-5 work deadlines are coming to drag you.  Simply take 30 minutes to 1 hour (or even  less) out of your day to do what you can and what you can’t finish, you can complete another day.

A little goes a long way, even in the blogging world. Fun Fact: I write a lot of my posts during my lunch time or during car rides to work lol. Whatever becomes your routine, do not let anyone tell you there’s a wrong way or that you’re not a blogger if you aren’t doing something their way! You will learn to blog the noise out and focus on your passions.

2. Don’t Let A Good Idea Slip By

A lot of people try to tell you to blog to a niche but I say screw that and blog about what drives you and what makes you happy. If you set out wanting to be in a niche, that’s absolutely fine too but if you begin to find yourself drifting from said niche…guess what, that’s okay. Go with what ideas pop into your head that you know you can execute and you will enjoy reading yourself.

NEVER force content, you will find yourself feeling uninspired to write. When you think of something that you’d like to write about, take notes either on your phone or a planner. Use whatever tickles your fancy, just don’t rule out any of your ideas until you take time to explore the options of it’s practicality or whether you actually like the topic at hand

3. Plan A Couple Posts Ahead If You Can

Remember what I said about time management? To do it when you can, the same goes for scheduling posts. If you get bite by the writing bug and you one day have an urge to keep writing, use that opportunity to draft future posts, even if you don’t schedule a set date. If you are blogging through WordPress, within the admin’s publish panel you have the option to schedule a post, publicize it and what other features you add to it.

In the picture I provided above, you will see that readability and SEO are added and we will speak on that next. The only thing to remember when scheduling your post is to ensure that your post has been proof read, the publish date is set in the time zone you want and most importantly that you like what you’ve written.

4. SEO Management

Okay, if you’ve done any research, you would have seen this term thrown around left, right and center.

So what is the dreaded SEO that everyone speaks of?

First it stands for Search Engine Optimization, and it’s a major tool in digital marketing. Marketing is a prominent sector as it helps get businesses and their brands recognized. In saying that, SEO is a vital part of online marketing as it’s a driving force in making online businesses/sites more recognized on the world wide web. It’s a main contributor to ranking high on search engines like Google.

Loads of companies spend millions of dollars investing in the best SEO components available. I know right, that’s a lot of money! However, it doesn’t have to be that expensive especially for your blog, so here are a few points/tools you can use:

  • Download the Yoast SEO Plugin
  • Try to find a focus word to center your post around
  • Produce quality content

5. Stay Active on Social Media

In today’s world Social Media can make or break a company. We live in a digital world now where you can reach millions of persons from all parts of the world and Social Media is what helps with that. Having various Social handles to promote you blog is vital in my opinion. It helps you grow your reach and make new friends.

I think the key thing to remember with social media is to engage with others. Yes, you want to get your content out there but no one wants to follow an automated, spammy account where you can’t interact with the person behind the blog. Here are my fave socials:

  • I think Twitter wins for me out of all of them. There are so many ways you can use Twitter to promote your blog and to meet great people and forge relationships. Blogging doesn’t have to be a solo journey, so whenever you get the chance, take that Twitter plunge and hit me up if you ever fancy a friend
  • Pinterest is another key social! It’s fun, full of inspo and so simple to use, along with that, it can boast your blog views substantially. I think I’ll do a post on Pinterest in the near future to dive more into the benefits but for now I have a Pinterest Board for bloggers. If you’d like to join, comment below or email me and I’ll add you the Badass Blogging Tribe!
  • Another useful social is Facebook due to the massive support you can find on their too. There are so many Facebook blogging groups to join where members in the community share tips and help promote each other’s content too
  • I left this one for last because lol I haven’t dived into it yet. I keep saying I will and find excuses or forget but I think it seems like a fun app too. Instagram can be great for blogging as it’s very visual. I’ve recently heard people complain about an algorithm but my view on that is just go with the flow and tap on photos you like. Lots of bloggers do Instagram threads or comment pods on Twitter if you need to make new friends or need support.

Oh wow, would you look at the time and words! Oh my! Tehe I know I’ve taken up your time today but I hope it has been helpful to you. Whether you’re new or old, I wish you the best along your journey. Your blog is just the beginning to something beautiful along your path. Keep at the things you are passionate about and you can accomplish loads! It’s been fun chatting but some spreadsheets are calling my name and I think my boss is looking for me

If you’d like a little more corny Lena vibes in your life lol don’t forget to subscribe by “becoming a doll” in the right panel or following my socials. I promise you’ll get a good laugh or too
