Why You Need A Jade Roller in Your Beauty Routine

If you love skincare and keeping up with the latest beauty trends, chances are you've heard of Jade rolling. As its name suggests, this involves using a jade roller on your skin. Today I talk about the benefits of jade rolling as I use its pink cousin--the Rose Quartz Roller.

Derma rolling isn't new. It's an ancient Chinese practice of self-massage with health benefits as well as beauty benefits. You may have seen lots of these beautiful beauty tools all over Pinterest and Instagram. True jade is cool to the touch, even at room temperature.

What are the Benefits of Jade Rolling?

Jade is really good for evening your skin tone, for cooling and calming the skin, and for giving an even and safe massage to your muscles. The main benefit of jade rolling is to encourage "drainage" of the lymphatic system's natural detoxification process. The self massaging also leads to increased blood circulation (making the skin glow), and releasing tension in the facial muscles.

What is a Rose Quartz Roller?

You may be asking yourself, "Wait, I thought jade was green?" Yes, my friend, you are correct. Jade is a natural green stone and, according to those who believe in crystals' healing properties, supposed to help bring harmony between the mind and body, and promote relaxation and youthfulness.

I simply chose my rose quartz roller for its aesthetics. Rose quartz is associated with the heart chakra and unconditional love. It opens the heart to compassion for self and for others, and raises self-esteem. It is also believed to wash out toxic energies and emotions that you have trapped inside of you. In addition, Ancient Egyptians believed rose quartz could prevent wrinkles and the signs of aging (sign me up!).

How to Use a Jade Roller

Before Rolling

Always start with clean skin. Apply your favorite oils and serums to your skin before rolling. (Derma rolling will bring anything applied to the skin's surface deeper into the skin, so I can't recommend massaging in any exfoliating peels especially if you have sensitive skin.)

Rolling Techniques

Since the stone is held in a roller, it's easy to glide it over the skin in an up-and-down, side-to-side, and out to the side in all directions.

To take advantage of the lymphatic drainage, roll away from your nose all over. Imagine you are gently rolling all the toxins built up away from your nose and downwards. Continue rolling outward along your jawline and down the sides of your neck by your ears towards your collarbones.

I like to roll out and very softly pressing upwards at my cheekbones for an uplifting massage. Same for my eyebrows, as I usually have tense eyebrows from looking at a computer screen all day.

Since all of this glorious massage will increase circulation in your face, it will also allow your serums to work more efficiently. I always finish by applying my Overnight Resurfacing Peel and my Charcoal Balancing Oil as a moisturizer for my oily skin.

I've only recently started derma rolling with my jade (rose quartz) roller. I can't wait to see how much better my skin absorbs my favorite skincare products. Jade rollers are a great self-care tool, and they make a great gift for any occasion.
