Goals for 2018 & Reader Survey

I hear most people set goals for the new year either before the year starts, or within the first week. I also heard that January is a free practice month for the new year. So you know what? I'm going to roll with that!

January, the month that everyone loves to hate, is also my birthday month. While I was grateful for another year of life, I was sick in bed right up to that day. January is usually a hit or miss month for me with sickness. This January was a "miss" for sure. The new year greeted both of us with severe colds that knocked us down for over a week. Mine cold was so bad that my sinus pressure felt like wisdom tooth pain! Oh, and we've had our kitchen drama keeping us occupied (more on that soon!).

Despite the lows of January, I'm still confident that this year will be a better year than last! Here are a few of my goals for 2018.

Home Goals

kitchen

To put this simply: put this ordeal behind us once and for all.

If you've been following along on my Instagram stories, you'll know that we have a huge project on our hands: an involuntary kitchen "reno." I'm putting air quotes around the word reno because this isn't a task we necessarily wanted to take on. It all started with a leak that we thought we could fix ourselves...and the problem ballooned into a mold problem that requires LOTS of work.

Here are the items affected: window, drywall, insulation, framing, stucco, roof flashing, backsplash, counters, cabinets, and flooring. Our homeowners insurance hasn't made any of this process easy, and we are alone in seeking and hiring contractors in the area, along with securing tons of paperwork from each of them, which is no easy feat since much of the industry is still backed up with repairs from the hurricanes.

I finally caved decided on white shaker cabinets after most of you voted on my Instagram poll (thanks everyone who voted and otherwise dealt with my solicitations of advice!). I had the help of a kitchen designer to plan the space in a way that works best for our home, and I'm happy with what we came up with! I will share more of that on the blog soon!

home office + gym

I am working on converting our front bedroom into an office + workout room. Since the blogging life requires lighting and endless photo props and supplies, I decided I needed the space to corral all of my gear in one space. And, since I workout I recently finished painting the room and am slowly making it into my own space. It still needs curtains, artwork,
a rug, and organization.

pantry, master closet + garage

I would love to paint all three areas and finish organizing them. Each of these areas require planning, thinking outside the box, and a lot of elbow grease. And, let's face it, money. My goal is to complete these three projects spending as little as possible. (I have a huge Organization board on Pinterest that will hopefully come in handy!)

garden

Replace dead hedges and finish planting the second hedge. I underestimated the number of podocarpus plants I needed for this project, so I'll be planting new plants again real soon. However, I was rewarded BIG TIME by some of the beautiful Boscobel roses I settled on after discussing several other contenders for my English Rose garden.

fitness goals

I have been enjoying the Fit Body Guide by Anna Victoria. After over a year of trial and error, I have done many different fitness programs, but cardio + weight-lifting are really what works best for me. I am starting the last and final phase of the guide, where HIIT is incorporated. Sometimes I use BodyBoss Fitness Guide's HIIT workouts on those days, but I find what's most effective for me is treadmill sprints.

I have learned SO much about fitness and weight loss over the course of the past 18 months and I'd love to give back and start a series. Are there any topics that would interest you? I'd love to share what I've learned, what worked and what didn't work. I touched upon that a tiny bit in this post, but there's so much more!

personal goals

Spend less idle time on Facebook. Explore more of Jacksonville and Florida in general. I really want to hit up Florida beach towns along the gulf coast. I also want to find new little spots around our previous city of residence, Savannah. If you have any recommendations, please leave them in the comments below!

blog goals

Instagram is here to stay, and admittedly it's one of the platforms I've let fall to the wayside. This year I am determined to curate a gorgeous feed that truly reflects who I am, and also grow my following.

Ever since I began blogging back in 2012, this hobby turned business has been ever evolving. It's been a humbling experience in learning that you never truly stop learning, and perfectionism cripples me more than I'd like to admit. This post was delayed not only because of sickness and construction, but also because of a debilitating perfectionism that I want to tame.

That being said, I have many topics that I want to write about this year, and the perfectionist in me is reveling in the new planner with all of the brainstorming and goal sheets. I also need a little bit of help from YOU my readers!

please fill out my survey!

Since I want to grow as a blogger and writer, I thought it was finally time I create a reader Survey. Receiving honest feedback is helpful in creating a space you'll love to return to. This survey is completely anonymous and each question is optional. Your answers will remain anonymous and I will really appreciate your responses! It will help me create better content for YOU. If you're having trouble getting the survey to display, CLICK HERE to open it up in a new window.

Thank you so much for following along and being a part of my journey to fitness, a better home, and a better me! I am thankful for your readership and excited about the rest of this year!
