Top 6 Tips for a Successful Website

In order for a website to succeed, it needs more than a nice design and high quality content. It needs to create the ideal user experience, by combining functionality with style.

When it comes to the issue of beauty, that’s something that can be highly subjective, as everyone has their own idea of what constitutes beauty, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any rules that one must follow if they are to create a website that has appeal.

Below are six tips that are integral to the success of your site. Things that your site should get right, if it’s to reach its potential.

  1. Make the Perfect Home Page

Of all the pages of your website, the home page is the most important. People will decide whether or not your website is for them, by the look of your home page, and you only have a moments glance to win them over.

You don’t want to clutter your home page with too much information. That’s a mistake that is all too common. There will be so much opportunity throughout the site for you to explain what your site is about, so don’t feel obligated to get it all down on the front page.

  1. Make Your Site Mobile

Everyone has a mobile phone these days, which makes it increasingly important for you to consider them, when making your site. You want to think about the kinds of things visitors will do on your site, when accessing it through their phones. There are so many Mobile Friendly themes nowadays, in fact, most themes are mobile friendly as standard so unless your site is very old, you shouldn’t have to worry about that department. Just be sure to test the site out on your phone, to ensure that everything is the way that it should be.

  1. Utilize “White Space”

If you utilize white space properly it can make your site look more balanced, allowing you to direct your visitors eyes in the right directions. When a site has a poor layout, it can make it difficult for visitors to understand what you’re trying to get across to them.

You want to ensure that word spacing is adequate, as this makes it easier for them to read your posts. You also want to go with a more minimalist design, by limiting the number of design elements. If you clutter the site with too many design elements, it will make visitors eyes wonder around the site. You want to improve the user experience of your site, by using white space to control where users look.

  1. Implement Search Engine Optimization

You want to get your site on the first page of Google’s search engine results, but you also want to ensure it’s for the right keywords. So spend some time researching keywords that are relevant to your site.

You want to get your site ranking on keywords that will more easily convert to sales. If you have a good SEO strategy in place, then you can dramatically improve the conversion rate of your site.

You have to ensure that all the keywords you intend to rank for, are related to your website.

Your landing pages must also be well constructed, as part of the process. A site ranking on the right keywords, coupled with excellent landing pages, will produce the best possible results.

  1. Make Your Site Easier To Read

A website that is highly readable, is a site that uses words, phrases and sentences that are recognizable to the masses. When a website has high readability, end users can very easily skim through the site and get the general gist of what’s being explained, with very little effort.

Achieving high readability is not as difficult as it sounds, here are two rules for you to consider:

  • Contrast is important: It’s very important that your background and text contrast very well. To ensure this, you will need to carefully select the right colors, while considering your brand identity. So choosing a color scheme that correlates with that makes sense. There are so many color schemes that you can go with, so feel free to try them all, but be sure not to sacrifice readability for aesthetics.
  • Limit the number of fonts: As a general rule, you don’t want to use more than three different typefaces on your website. There may be those unique circumstances where you are forced to go with more, but in the event that you are, you must ensure that everything works together harmoniously.
  1. Use Social Media Marketing

As part of your marketing strategy, you can’t go wrong with Social Media.

When properly implemented, it provides a very rewarding way of engaging with your audience. It also gives you a wider element of control over the kinds of people that read your content.

Additionally, there are many different methods that you can use, to entice visitors through these social networks. Consider using social media sites like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter to give away information, in exchange for traffic to your site. You could also consider viral marketing, through social media.
