Morning Focus

Enjoying a hot cup of coffee, waiting in a serene airport terminal… listening to dvsn “Morning After” album(Click Link to listen), morning focus on love.

Yep, the L-Word.

This particular album puts me in a sultry, confident, ready-for-great things type of mood.

For many, the new year may bring about new loves, resurrect former loves, revive loves in a lull or put them to their final rest. Hopefully what remains on the rise is self-love. How can you love someone else (healthily) if you don’t love yourself first?

Welcoming all good things, all uplifting vibes and peace of mind, I focus on ways to unwind and remain centered… my morning focus… and in doing so I realize that music is what plays the most significant role in being centered and at peace… also has a way of reminding me of things I may forget in the haze of a particular moment. Music touches my soul and reminds me of what’s important. Need that every so often.

Having been raised in an environment filled with music, in a family with a range of musical talents this shouldn’t come as such a surprise – but it does. Finding myself more in-tune with what makes me tick, I guess they call that maturity or wisdom. Self-awareness, as you mature so shall it. I love what I’m learning about myself. Understanding how (and more importantly why) I feel passionately about certain aspects of life. Where my motivations come from, and what triggers that fire inside of me to do what I do, be who I am, or hold my convictions as I do. What does that for you?

My Morning focus is to stay focused. Remind myself of that daily… To pay attention to my intuition, to what I do, say, allow – how all things represent who I am and how centered I remain. Slip up, get back on track. Never perfect but always progressing. Whether I’m creating music, listening to someone else’s i realize it is where I get a lot of my energy and focus.

Interesting article on What Music Does To Our Brains(Click to read) goes into a bit of detail with respect to the impact different types of music plays on our perceptions, creativity, personality, motor and reasoning skills. The author notes:

Blues fans have high self-esteem, are Creative, outgoing, gentle and at ease

Jazz fans have high self-esteem, are creative, outgoing and at ease

Classical music fans have high self-esteem, are creative, introvert and at ease

Rap fans have high self-esteem and are outgoing

Opera fans have high self-esteem, are creative and gentle

Country and western fans are hardworking and outgoing

Reggae fans have high self-esteem, are creative, not hardworking, outgoing, gentle and at ease

Dance fans are creative and outgoing but not gentle

Indie fans have low self-esteem, are creative, not hard working, and not gentle

Bollywood fans are creative and outgoing

Rock/heavy metal fans have low self-esteem, are creative, not hard-working, not outgoing, gentle, and at ease

Chart pop fans have high self-esteem, are hardworking, outgoing and gentle, but are not creative and not at ease

Soul fans have high self-esteem, are creative, outgoing, gentle, and at ease

What do you think of those correlations? What centers you? What puts you in a place of peace?

Learn something new everyday… hopefully about yourself, about someone else, and about our environment.

Morning Focus, love
