Follow the below steps to install Lightworks Video Editor in Ubuntu 16.04 – A free video editing software for Linux

Before start the installation we have to download the lightworks video editor from official website. So follow the below command to download the same.

Here i have downloaded the .deb package of lightworks. Refer the output below.

After downloading we are ready to install the lightworks video editor package but before that let’s update the packages & repositories of Ubuntu 16.04 using below command.

Now let’s go ahead and install the Lightworks free video editing software package using below command.

Note : During package installation you will get some error message of dependencies as Lightworks video editor required some important dependencies to run properly. So don’t worry about the error message. Just run the below command to install all required dependencies.

As you can see above we have successfully installed the Lightworks video editor package. To confirm the same refer the below command.

Now to open the application just type the command lightworks on shell prompt. Refer the command below.

elinuxbook@ubuntu:~$ lightworks   # Open the lightworks free video editing software

After open the Lightworks video editor for first time it will ask you to create a account. So just create a account by entering your Email ID, Username & Passsword. Refer the snapshot below.

CREATE ACCOUNT IN LIGHTWORKS

After creating a account you will successfully get in to the Lightworks free video editing software. Here to start your work you can create a new project by click on Create a new project option. Then give a name to your project and set Frame rate to Auto.

CREATE A NEW PROJECT

After all above process you will get the below screen in front of you. Here you can start your video editing process.

LIGHTWORKS VIDEO EDITOR

You can also open the Lightworks video editor application graphically using Search your computer box. Refer the snapshot below.
