Hair getting reNEWED with Lush ‘NEW’ shampoo bar

Hair growth products are everywhere right now; cutely shaped gummies that promise thicker growth, biotin infused whatcha-ma-call-it adorned on many a bottle, so when Zara began hunting around for what could work for her, Lush and their shampoo bars were her first call…

My hair is literally a huge part of me.  I wish it wasn’t so, but it is.  My gorgeous mermaid style of 2015-2017 (rest in peace mutha mermaid barnet) trashed my locks to no end.  My hair began self-cutting, splitting and falling out.  I didn’t want to let it gooooo, but I knew I had to.

So in February of this year, I braved a huge chop.  At first, I loved it but trying to keep up with short hair is hard work.  For myself, I was used to rolling out of bed with a head full of dry shampoo, scrunching and going on my merry way.  With short hair, this changed, and on a school run it just wasn’t ideal (like no way, no how!) I knew I wanted my long wavy locks back.  But I wanted them NOW (Yeah I’m hoping you envisioned Verucca Salt stomping her feet about because I’m forever doing that… you think I’m joking?)

So after a rave review from the sister on Lush‘s ‘Jason and the argan oil’ shampoo bar, I set to work mooching to see if anything would be more suited to my hair type… and lo and behold

N e w  s a t  l o o k i n g  b a c k  a t  m e .

Now, first of all, I didn’t even have to read that it helped with hair growth to know it was for me.  This mother-chuffer contains cinnamon and that is literally one of my favourite things ever.  I’ll eat, drink, wear, whatever cinnamon till the day I draw my last cinnamon infused breath, thus meaning it was already taking place in my cart.

Also containing peppermint, which is a well-known scalp stimulator and married up with many other amazing ingredients such as nettle, clove bud and rosemary this little guy pretty much sounded perfect.

It was strange thinking that this hundreds and thousands looking soap bar could clean my hair well, but upon first wash, I was hooked.  The scent was absolutely divine, and the bar lathered up effortlessly and whilst rinsing away, my hair and scalp felt fresh and cleansed TF – I was honestly blown awaaaaay.

But did it work? I actually believe it did! Whilst it didn’t thicken my hair (I mean I don’t think many products are going to trifle with genetics, and whilst we’re at it, my DNA is bare RUDE) I do believe it sped the growth of my hair up! I’ve since dabbled back into conventional shampoo since using the New shampoo bar and I miss that widdle bar I do.  So I’m converted, does this mean I’m a lushie now?

Only downside? It contains SLS.  If you’re trying to avoid SLS in your bathroom products, unfortunately, New isn’t the one.  I’m tempted to try Flyway hair next, my fine hair needs all the damned help it can get!

Also? BYE PLASTIC! I love that it’s packaging-free! Get on down with ya bad self Lush!
