Feelin’ Rainbow Brite? Rainbow cloud Make-up tutorial, with Stacey

Hey guys and gals! It’s little old me again coming at you with an eye makeup tutorial!

Now if you’re Instagram savvy and keep up, then you will have already seen this look trending all over the gram.  I fell in love with the whole concept and artistic nature of this rainbow cloud eye look, so as a curious creative makeup artist I just had to give it a go! Of course I had to share the process with all of you, so without further ado let’s get into it – grab yourself a cuppa and a snack as this one is going to be lengthy!

I have composed a numbered pictorial walkthrough so you can see the whole process, some stages look completely crazy, perhaps even a total mess but I got you, so keep in mind that it will all come together in the end!
Step 1:
I started off with doing my brow and prepping my eyelid ready for my eye-shadow application. I used the collection lasting perfection concealer in shade ‘1 light’ as a base for my shadow; just like a painting you need to prime and prepare your canvas ready for your masterpiece to get the best results. Using a flat brush, evenly distribute the product over the eyelid and then bounce a small beauty sponge over it to get an all over even base. DO NOT SET the concealer, leave it wet and tacky as this will help stick the shadow pigment and help get the colours to pop!
Step 2:
OK, I need to quickly mention that this is going to be a rainbow eye look, so you need to remember your colour wheel when applying your colours.  So, you only need the 3 primary colours to get all the colours you’ll need for this look.  All rainbow looks that I create always start off with yellow. I used the yellow shade from my Zulu palette by Juvia’s Place. Using a medium fluffy brush, pack it on in the centre; and when I say pack I mean PACK! Use dabbing motions, don’t be tempted to swipe your brush around – just keep dabbing. I dabbed about 4 layers to get my yellow this intense and the concealer helped this because of its tacky quality.
Step 3:
Now that we have our first colour in place, we can start blending it upwards! So just give your brush a quick sharp tap to remove any loose shadow, then gently, with a light hand use some very small circular movements on top of your yellow. It should start to fade upwards; you can go back in with more yellow if you feel it’s losing intensity, but just keep going until you’re happy with it and you’re left with no harsh lines.
Step 4:
Next up, we take our second primary colour, red, which I took from the 35B palette from Morphe. Again, taking a clean brush and as before with the yellow just pack this on and slightly overlap the yellow at the edge. Again use tapping/dabbing motions, because if you swipe it’s going to get messy and be hard to clean up – plus it will mix with the tacky concealer and create a cakey clumpy pink shade which is not what we are after!
Step 5:
Now this is where things went a little crazy for me and I will wholeheartedly hold my brushes up and admit that I brought the red too far over! EEK! I’ll clean this up later on, so, unlike me, try not to come too far over as it will be all over your nose, LOL!
Anyways as before, tap your brush to rid it of any excess pigment then slowly and gently, with small circular motions blend the edges upwards leaving no harsh lines. Then, gently blend the red and the yellow together so that you create an orange shade in-between and BAM you now have 3 rainbow colours as if by magic! Well not magic, but the magic of blending haha!
Step 6:
Ok, so now that we have our 3 rainbow colours we are going to go back to that yellow shade and extend it out so we can layer our next primary colour.  Using the same brush you used for the yellow, you guessed it!  Start packing again until you get that intense yellow like we did in the beginning and blend up and outwards to get that faded out gradient look to it.
Step 7:
Now we can start packing that final primary colour on, blue! Starting with yet another clean brush, take your blue.  Again mine is from the 35B morphe palette and just lay that baby over the top of the yellow. Don’t forget to pack, pack, pack! You’ll be able to guess what’s next as you should see some green already starting to come together.
Step 8:
With your brush, tap the excess pigment out and again slowly and gently with circular motions blend the blue up and out, blending the edges in with the yellow so that you get a nice vivid green colour between the yellow and blue and BOOM! You now have 5 colours from just using 3 eyeshadow shades, you can thank me later LOL!
Step 9-10
Ok so now we have 2 choices! You can either go back in with your red shade to overlap with the blue to make a purple, or you can do what I did and just use purple…
I used a purple, again from the 35B palette and – you guessed it! I packed it on just as we did with the other shades. Again, we need to blend the colours together so the blue and purple merge seamlessly.
Step 11:
We now have all our colours laid down! So now we can begin softening everything up, leaving no harsh edges and have everything blended out evenly.  Taking yet another clean brush; preferably a small tapered brush and use a very light neutral or white shade and gently go around the edges to soften it all up.
Step 12:
Here is where the fun really starts! It’s time to grab the concealer and flat brush again so we can carve out our cut crease.  What I like to do is pop a little concealer on the back of my hand, so that I can get an even amount of product on my brush. Take a small amount and pop a bit on the centre of your eyelid, then look up so that it transfers, leaving you a guide as to where you need to run the concealer.  Take your time doing this – practice makes perfect!  Once you have your crescent shaped out and filled in, It’s time to set it with the next colour eyeshadow – so don’t set it with any powders just like in the first stage as we need that tacky base to help adhere the pigment to it.
Step 13-14
Grab a pink shade, mine is from my 35B palette and start to pack that colour on the bottom part of the lid to half-way up the lid, again just use patting motions so you can direct the colour easier.  For the second half go back in with the yellow shade for the top half of the cut crease and just tap that on.  Gradually blending the pink and the yellow together so we get a nice orange colour in the centre.
Step 15:
This part is optional, but I decided to use a white liner to separate and define the cut crease so that the separation was obvious and visible.  I used the white liquid eyeliner pen from Essence.
Step 16:
Right let’s get that concealer back out again shall we? We need to add some details!  Again, add some concealer to back of your hand and get that flat brush back out.  To create the clouds, just make wave shapes – you can use the natural curves of your brushes to get the shapes right.  Once you have the shapes you want, you can go in and set the clouds down with white eyeshadow and blend these downwards towards the rainbow colours so that they merge.
Step 17-18:
Let’s finish up shall we?! Right, so everything is pretty much done now!  All that’s left for us to do is to add concealer under the eyes to blend those gorgeous Gucci and Fendi bags and some shadow to the lower lash line; I opted for pink to tie the whole look together.  I also personally added some highlighter to my inner corner and brow bone, added some mascara to my lashes and white liner to my water line and finally added some false lashes – which are optional as fake lashes aren’t for everyone!
Voila!
I really hope you enjoyed this very in-depth tutorial and managed to stay with me throughout the whole thing!  I really enjoyed sharing this with you all, so I hope that you all want more of these in the future! What would you like to see? Some simpler looks? More neutral? Let me know!
