#BTBYC My Natural Hair Journey: An Update

The last months have been a bit of a Hair rollercoaster in all honesty. In March, I started taking a progesterone only contraception. With a much needed switch up of products used in my hair care regime and the regime itself and about two weeks in to the new pill, my hair was in the best condition it's ever been in, I had minimal to no breakage and had noticed the beginnings of new hair growth.

Fast forward another two weeks, I was in a horrendous job and having to consider moving again! So, I was stressed out and anxious and my diet had gone down the toilet etc etc! My hair became dry and brittle, and was breaking off in clumps. So, I got my diet back (I am still a WIP in that area of my life!) and continued with my gentle regime and...no change!

I researched a bit more about the pill I was on and found that in a small amount of cases women taking it can develop alopecia. I also found that some women referenced the progesterone only pill as negatively impacting their hair condition.

I was losing so much of my hair that I stopped taking the pill 3 weeks ago now. I am still having hair breakage but I have started to see improvements in hair quality again and not as much breakage. Also, I've been told that it can take around 6 months for my hormone levels to return to normal and I had a lot of self inflicted damage to be repaired.

So I have had a slight set back in my #naturalhairjourney in terms of length but I have enjoyed my growing relationship with my hair. I still have a long way to go in my journey to feeling confident enough to freely love every part of me. I am still a wearer of wigs, and I can't say if I will ever go completely natural, all of the time. However, I have embraced my natural hair in ways I never thought I would.

It used to feel foreign to me, as insane as that sounds! I love my natural hair and that this is something I would have struggled to say not so long ago!

Talissa :-)
