Sugar Free February | Update 1

Tags: sugar

We've been on the Sugar free journey for three days now and on the whole it's not been too bad.

Day 1
I felt myself getting more irritable at the DPD delivery man taking my Muscle Foods order to the wrong bloody street and then having to chase it up. BUT at no point did I want to reach for the sugar. I knew I was irritable because of the lack of the sweet stuff but did not find myself craving it.

Day 2
I thought was going to be the start of the mother of all headaches but again nothing. I have stopped taking tea into work and am sticking to water in an attempt to make sure I'm drinking enough, which will hopefully help with the headaches. I did find myself walking into the staff room at the end of my shift and, spotting the biscuits on the table, momentarily forgot I was sugar free and almost reached for one. It was almost like a reflex reaction to seeing biscuits. It was a bit of an eye opener to be honest. I would have just shoved that biscuit in my mouth and not given it a second though before. And lets face it, going along with Slimming World, that would have been at least 4 syns wasted without a second thought. There would have been no decision making. It would have just gone straight in my mouth and deal with the consequences after.

After my momentary lapse, I decided to head to Sainsbury's to top up the fruit bowl as I'm hoping the natural sugars will help curb the side affects and cravings. I decided to do a little research whilst there and actually look at some food labels that I thought would be low in sugar. A lot of "no added sugar" stuff was still pretty high in sugars. From yogurts to cereals I was pretty shocked at how much sugar we consume without even realising it. I headed down the confectionery aisle just to nosey at everything I couldn't have when a little gold packet caught my eye.

Thank you Mr Werther!!! These will help keep away those sweetie demons. It then got me thinking, I know there is sugar free confectionery out there, but where do you find it? I'm off to Holland and Barratt tomorrow because I'm 90% sure they have some sugar free goodies. I also did a google search for sugar free sweets and came across www.sweetswithout.co.uk/. I've put in a small order (it's free delivery for orders over £10 so I spent £11) and will update when they arrive. Maybe I'll film a haul tomorrow for my YouTube channel too.

I'm hoping the withdrawal headache hurries up so I can get it over with. We will see.

Until next time
