Sugar Free February Update 2

Day 3
I felt pretty tired at the end of the day but beyond that it was pretty uneventful. We decided to go out for dinner to a local pub chain as we were both pretty knackered. As we knew pudding would be off the menu we shared a couple of starters and then had a blow out meal. Nothing special but we made sure we were full to bursting so the idea of pudding actually made me feel sick. Other than that I just went to work and went to bed.

Day 4
I think the withdrawals are starting to set in. I'm feeling very lethargic and head-achy. Also had a couple of light headed moments. Although weirdly I am not craving Sugar. I've been fancying sugar but not necessarily having that feeling of NEEDING it.

I've been looking up the rules for this challenge and to be honest haven't found a definitive list. Mostly it's just about cutting refined sugar and high Sugar Products such as fruit juices and smoothies (which we do anyway thanks to Slimming World). One of the most popular rules that most people follow is the  10% rule. Basically if a food is less than 10% sugar then it's ok to eat as the sugar content is minimal. The easiest way to work out quickly if a foods sugar content is under 10% is to look at the nutritional information per 100g and if the sugar per 100g is less than 10g then it's under 10%.

We have come to terms with the fact that at some point we are going to crave Chocolate, biscuits and sweets. I mentions in my previous post that I have ordered some sugar free sweets online but decided to conduct a little experiment whilst out today to see if I could find any products that would satisfy my chocolate craving whilst still being under 10% sugar. I'm thinking down the lines of diabetic chocolate and no added sugar products. I've filmed a haul for YouTube to show how I got on.

Now I know that people are going to question these products as being full of artificial sweeteners which can be just as bad (or even worse). But I just want to emphasise these are NOT for regular consumption. They are simply to stop the chocolate cravings every now and again. I will be limiting to one item a day.

After filming the haul I met Dale in town for tea and toasties. After all toasties are savoury. We decided to pop into boots where I found diabetic shortbread. This stuff might be my saviour! It tastes just like normal shortbread (possibly slightly less sweet). I also tried the Atkins brownie bar after filming and can safely say I shall not be repurchasing. It was just plain weird and not anything like any brownie I've ever tried. Dale quite liked it though.

I also have on my unity band now too, as does Dale.

Seems rather fitting to get them today as today it World Cancer Day. Hoping we can raise lots of money against this horrendous disease.

If your able to donate any small amount please do so here. If you can't donate, please share this blog across social media to help raise awareness of this awesome charity and the amazing work they do.

Until next time
