Daniel Fast 2018: Week 1

Hey guys,

Happy New Year! So glad and blessed to have made it into 2018. Something about a new year just makes you want to do better.  I have to say, so far so good.  Every January, my church does a 21-day partial fast called the Daniel Fast. I will leave a link below for anyone who would be interested in learning more about it.

In essence, it’s a restricted Food fast.  It’s vegan, sugar-free,  no processed foods, no white starches, and only natural seasonings like sea salt, peppers, etc.

I wanted to keep a weekly update about how the fast is going, the things I’ve learned, and how I’m feeling.

Physical

Although I’m not doing the fast for weight loss,  I have to admit that is a benefit of it. I have lost about 2.5 pounds this first week. This may be TMI, but I definitely have become more regular. (Sorry guys, just being honest).  I haven’t had any major cravings for meat. I have had very subtle cravings for sugar. However, my cravings have been suppressed with fruit.  The first couple of days I didn’t even feel very hungry throughout the day. But now, I’m starting to regain my normal appetite.  My palette has begun to get used to the Daniel Fast foods. Luckily, a lot of traditional Nigerian foods can be turned into vegan options. For example,  asaro (yam porridge),  bali (roasted plantain), brown rice fried rice, efo (spinach/kale stew). My favorite food that I have had so far is peanut butter spaghetti (whole grain) stir fry. I put veggie sausage in it and I genuinely enjoy and crave it.

Spiritual

I have begun to listen to God’s voice more. In the past, after I would pray, I would just go about my merry way. Now, I’ve taken some time to meditate on what God my be putting into my heart and mind. I’ve learned that hearing  God’s voice is not this great thunderous earth-shaken encounter. Sometimes, it’s the positive and inspirational thoughts or ideas that come into your head while meditating. Sometimes, it’s even a picture or image that comes into your mind. Whatever the case,  I’m glad that I’m learning how to do it.

One thing I want to get better at is my bible reading. Because I was behind a few days on my Bible in one year plan on the bible app, I am still reading through that. I hope to finish it within this coming week and start a new fresh plan.

I’ve also learned that God wants to be honored in every area of our lives. So I’m working on being more thankful and reverencing him in all that I do.

Welp, that’s all that I have for this week.  Looking forward to what week 2 will have in store.

Stay Blessed,

Abisola
