Being a Leader is more than just having an extensive knowledge about a certain job or duty one must fulfill. A true leader is a person who has made the choice deep within their heart and mind to be a leader. This does not just apply to first responders, military or federal agencies. Anyone who is in a position of leadership or supervisor role must be willing to step up and do what it takes to become what they need to be. Leaders can be taught, but a true leader will make it a life choice. When I served in the Army as and Infantrymen I was put in the position of team leader not only because I knew how to perform my job well, but I took care of those that looked up to me. I also made sure that my team was taken care of. Most good leaders understand that in order to lead those who look up to you for guidance, you must lead from the front by example. Making sure that the employees who work with you know that you will do anything and everything to accomplish the tasks that you have been given while still supporting your team.
A leader most of the time is never taught to be leader, they just choose to be one by showing a great example of what it is to work hard, accomplish tasks and care for those that they work with. If you are looking to be a leader I urge you to think deeply upon yourself and ask if you are ready to have people learn from your example. Things do not always go as planned and as the one in charge it is up to you to figure out a solution. It takes a strong individual to put aside themselves and think about the well being of others first. This is what it takes to be a good leader.
