First Book Review - Obsidian

Tags: book katy love

Hey, everybody. So, let's get into this. The first Book I will be reviewing is called Obsidian. It's written by Jennifer L. Armentrout, is part of a series, and it's a Kindle book, which is pretty great for convenience. You can read it on your phone whenever you get the chance. But, if I'm honest with you, it will be impossible to put this book down. I know that's totally cliche, but you won't hear me say that very often about a book. Usually, it's a struggle for me to continue reading a book. There are just so many out there that shouldn't have been written, but I push through it. Anyway, back to this book, it was fantastic. As soon as I was done with it, I purchased the next one (I'll review the others in the series at a later time). Here's a brief little synopsis:
-So, basically, this is a love story. But it isn't atypical. From the love stories I've read, they're usually the same thing over and over. The girl meets the guy for the first time, there's instant chemistry, they get together and fall in love. Okay, not all of them are like that. But it seems like that's all I've been reading lately. This was a nice breath of fresh air. In this book, Katy is the new girl in a small town. She moves in with her mother to get away from the grief of her father dying. To deal with it, her mom works almost 24-7, leaving Katy alone. She's super responsible, though, spending her time gardening or putting book reviews on her blog (ironic). You might think it boring to read about this, but with Daemon Black thrown in, it's anything but. Daemon is a serious babe living next door with his brother and sister (they're triplets). Unfortunately, he's also a douchebag, pardon my French. The hostility he shows Katy is unprovoked at first, but you'll see just how feisty she can get. In comparison, his sister Dee is a little ball of sunshine. She takes an instant liking to Katy and they begin to spend time with each other. They go around town, shopping and eating out. You'll see that the townspeople treat the Black triplets like they are the bubonic plague. It doesn't deter Katy from being Dee's friend, though. This, of course, angers Daemon. He warns Katy to stay away from his sister, which she ignores. Despite seemingly hating Katy, Daemon continues interacting with her. Sometimes he's the biggest jerk you'll ever see, and other times, he's the type of guy every girl has dreamed of. As you get farther into the book, you'll learn something about him and his family that turns Katy's life upside down. Nothing can ever be the same and her relationship with Daemon will be pushed to its boundaries. I'm not about to spoil it or anything more, but that's the jist of the book.
I fell in love with this book. It's become an instant classic of mine and it is most certainly worth your time to read. At the same time, though, it's got its flaws. But, what book doesn't? Despite it being different from most love stories, it still possesses clichés. It has some very similar elements to twilight, as well. Repetition is also an element seen in this book, and it can get a little tiresome. But these are minor things. I give this book an 8.5/10. Until next time.
