We Indians are known to the outside world as a nation known for its unity in variety for various reasons ,we are known for our respect and love for elders ,our love for other religions and races.
We belong to the race which said " hate the sin and never the sinner " .And yet we are unable to tolerate the minor things that people do to us.It has come to a time when crude abuses have become the happening thing to do whether the situation seems appropriate or inappropriate .
Despite being known for our culture and values, that is the very thing we dearth the most today.
Forget about ahimsa and tolerance but when you hear children call their teachers abuses ,abuses you till today perhaps never came to use .When you see people disrespect (ok forget the need to respect)outright insult the people who give you the knowledge of things which you will be doing for the rest of your life without substantial reason that is when you must wonder ,are we heading in the right direction?Are we genuinely making progress ?
They say with each generation people become more quick to react ,more faster at gaining knowledge ,but is that enough?Is it ok if your children grow up calling you bitch or bastard instead of papa or mamma ?Is that ok?
We will surely be shocked none the less ,we may even scold them .But whether they will change or not will reflect on us .People will say its the parents who did it .Do we really want that for the people who brought us up in a culture like India where each parent sacrifices and saves money just so that the children can have a good life.Yes definitely our lives are ours alone ,the choices we make are ours alone ,and yet I wonder when westerners try to learn about the values of our culture ,our vedas and puranas why do we chase them in a way not even they behave?Why do we act like a monster society which talks like our favorite TV series character? Why do we use insults and abuses so casually in circumstances which dont even require them ?Why has it become so easy ?why do we not wonder about it?why don't we think?
Being a country which celebrates all the female goddesses in such grand fervour especially Durga why is it often difficult for the men in even in our part of the world to accept the chide ,criticism or maybe just mere superiority in postion of a woman .
Why do we claim to be the worlds largest democracy providing many fundamental rights to our own citizens when the citizens of the country themselves cannot accept or act as per the rights given to every individual who has been born into this country?
Why do we consider a woman any less than a man ?why do women have to have to keep proving themselves over and over and over again?Why?
Ever since the birth of this free nation we have proved women capable of managing the home and work equally well,and despite being worked overtime and at times beyond her natural limits she has never complained and has given due respect to her male counterparts, for what?To be fed to dogs or thrown away as soon as you are born?To be judged and seen as a commodity even before you attain maturity?To be brutally raped and kidnapped by your own country men who pray to Godesses to give them a good life?To be harrased at local places openly and in private just because you are a woman?To be abused using the choicest words in the dictionary just because you were doing your job?To be ridiculed through out your career and seen less than your male counterparts even by females who have done in well in their life.
I have strayed a lot as I have written this post yet I cannot say I have strayed far as this is inspired by many real life incidents of the casual use of swear words and other abuses where it does not even seem appropriate by men and women alike yet the tinge of edge in the voice of the men who speak it seems more somehow more harsh when against a woman. Somehow perhaps it is the tendancy to be an alpha male is what makes it so.And yet I cannot help but wonder why that energy and will can be used for the care and protection of their fellow human beings instead of being used negatively?Can't they be the better ,chivalrous sex they not so long ago used to be ?I've heard many woman say chivalry is long dead atleast in most places.In our run to prove better than the other we are destroying that which can be a very beautiful relationship of peaceful coexistence.
I would also like to mention that I do not mean to disciminate or ridicule men ,and I do not say women are always right or that they're are the victims .I myself have a good number of guy friends who would help me anytime I needed it.Yet I would not refrain from saying that there are a few who destroy the name of even the good ones .Who at instances goes as far as leaving a traumatizing and lasting impression for life
Like great poets often say our time on this earth is very limited but if we make the most of it that time is enough,to leave our footprints on the sands of time ,to leave even after our time relations and people who speak well of us.
