1:02 min = 2:00 min ?

Well, it came time to change cell phone packages this week. Unfortunately my previous cell died. I took my phone to the local Telus dealer and asked if they could repair it. The young salesman looked at the phone and suggested I buy a new one. Because they didn't produce my phone anymore, it would cost a small fortune to repair. Since my fortune sits as two large jars of pennies under the kitchen sink, I decided to purchase a new phone/contract plan.

After looking over all the endless options and gadgets, I decide to purchase the Qualcomm flip phone. A small, compact and no frills phone that would fit perfectly in my small, compact, no frills car. Now came time to find the right plan.

"Talk $50": 500 minutes of air time but no long distance. Since the majority of the calls I make are from the road, 25cents a minute…..hmm that would be $125 month if I used all 500min. That’s not including 50cents for 911 and $6.95 for systems fee and voice mail options.

Here’s a tip, if you have an old cell phone you can still dial 911 even if you don't have a plan.

Finally I decide upon the “Talk Canada 30”. I have less minutes to talk but don’t have to pay those long distance charges. Sorry Mom, your going to have to wait for Christmas to hear about little Johnny and Suzy. Now for the catch, my new Telus plan measures air time by the minute not by the seconds. So if I talk 1:02min, I get charged for 2min. Telus rounds up by the minute. However I was taught in school if you round 1:49 =1 and 1:51=2. According to Telus, I can go into work tomorrow and work 7 hours and 2 minutes and get paid for 8 hours. I'll just tell my boss to phone Telus if he has a problem with that.
