Let's talk shop.

I rented a lens from Camera Traders for a wedding last week. My first time as a second shooter was very intimidating. I asked my friend, Jill if I could tag along with her while she shot a wedding. I've thrown myself out a couple of times only to be turned down. People want someone with experience to work with, and when you have none it's hard to get it. Just like applying for work. No one has time to show you how it's done, you just have to know. Jill and I worked together at Black's, she was the Assistant Manager before me. She threw me a big bone and offered to let me tag along to not one, but two weddings. The second one is tomorrow and I'm hoping to rent a different lens this time.

Brian does not enjoy being my test subject.

I really enjoyed the 24-70 lens I rented, I can get close and still have a bit of zoom. I did find I was switching out my lenses during the wedding shoot. If I want to be serious about being a photographer I am going to have to buy another camera and a nice prime lens too.
I've really come to love shooting nature and landscape. The light is kinder to bees and small flowers. The mountains stay still. It's easy to get the shot because I can really take my time with this type of photography. I want to do more people-related photography, work my way up to portraits and maybe even some weddings.

We decided at last minute to go to the Saanich Fair with some friends. It was a little pricy but a good way to end the summer. I can't be as sneaky with a bigger camera. I have to hide and wait for the moment when no one is looking right into the lens. And sometimes I have to make due with a softer shot because my lenses aren't fast enough. It's a poor carpenter who blames their tools though.

It's time to say goodbye to the warm days and nights. We'll be leaving the rainy island for a soon to be dark, and rainy Kingston. And the rain will lead up to snow, I'm hoping. I do miss the changing seasons and snow. But I know myself well enough that it'll only take a week of snow for me to get sick of it.
