Looking at me,
you can immediately see the odds against me,
The melanin in my skin being a “sure” factor of failure from the beginning.
At least to my back that’s what they seem to be whispering.
But for me, I oil it up, have it seen from a distance…
Glistening.

Does my Boldness offend you?
Because I refuse to stand down?
My blackness assumed as negligent, and incompetent,
huh, I will never bow down.

The pep in my step,
my womanly figure.
Me being a female,
you assume,
That I know nothing,
but I am not easily configured.
Accept your fate for me?
I REFUSE!!

Though I am intelligent, work my ass off,
and brought life into this world,
you still have the nerve to scoff,
classifying me as incapable,
to stand strong and hold my own.

Paid less,
more stress,
and so many do it alone.
hold it down,
without the other parent around,
and no matter what, we continue to hold our ground.

The odds against me may seem to be,
too much or unbearably unlivable when you look at me,
But these are the reasons why I get up,
and declare my freedom,
walking a path that scare so many.

A path that knocks you down and out, for no valuable reason.
But I am the uncountable equation that so many believe in.
I am one of so many that has been accused of treason.
Being turned down,
turned around,
and verbally beaten.

My status in these odds are adding as we speak,

My bravery, and boldness, all of it goes unnoticed,
because of my preference, skin color, and my womanly boldness.
My uniform and training the very things that make me who I am,
leaving me alone and jobless,
but here is firmly where I stand.
Looking at me,
You can immediately see the odds that so often come up against me,
but these very things are what make me want to live!!
These odds are what keeps me going!!
These odds will NEVER stop me!!
