Women in India have always been suffering from Crime ever since and now the latest reports are proving that they have increased a lot in previous three years. In 2012, the cases of crime against women were nearing 2.45 lakh, till 2014, they mounted to 3.34 lakh.

Women and Child Development Minister, Smt Maneka Gandhi told in Parliament today:

“As per the National Crime Records Bureau Data, a total of 2,44,270 cases of crime against women were reported in 2012, in 2013, the toll reached to 3,09,546 and in 2014, the total number of cases were 3,34,188, showing an immense increment.”

She also said, similarly, a total of 38,172, 58244 and 89,254 cases were reported in 2012, 2013 and 2014 respectively under crime against Children, which shows a huge increment. The minister submitted this report in written in Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

Over the years, many laws, security checks and new principles have been imposed to minimize the crime rate in the nation, but the most recent data puts all the efforts in the dustbin.

The minister said that the government completely understands and knows that these incidences of crimes against the children and the women cannot be minimized unless the mindset of the people in general undergoes a major change.

The government has taken many initiatives such as workshops, seminars and various street plays have been conducted to raise the awareness among the society.

The government has also used the resources like the press and electronic media to advertise to educate the masses about issues related to domestic violence, child sex ratio and child marriage.

Various events like International Women’s Day, that is being celebrated on March 08 worldwide and the National Girl Child Day are also being celebrated to create awareness among people related to the issues.

Smt Gandhi also told that the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has registered 74 complaints of exploitation & abuse of children at child care institutions over the last three years and in the current year.
