Wardrobe Wednesday: Looking Your Best for a Fun Pool Party

My Beach Essentials
(Not that many, I know. Haha!)

The rainy season may have started for us living in the Philippines. But, some may still find time to squeeze in a few  trips to pools and beaches as a last-minute attempt to still feel all summer-y. Pool parties have always been fun and exciting. Apart from being the best events for chatting up with friends, they’re also the perfect time to achieve that sun-kissed glow. If you ask me, I prefer pool parties a lot more than beach ones, but the latter look better on photos, so I like them still.

Here are some beauty essentials that every girl should know before jumping into a pool party:

Apply a generous amount of sunscreen… or tanning lotion!

Don’t forget your protection against the sun’s harmful rays. Using sunscreen will help your skin stay moisturized and protected from sun damage. In my case, I like to have  a bit of a tan when I’m out in the sun. I’m usually very pale, so I like seeing some color on my skin occasionally. Instead of sunscreen, I put on some tanning lotion, but I make sure to stay under the sun only for a couple of hours.

Do minimal Hair styling

As you’ll be spending most of your time soaked in the pool, there’s no need to do some tricky hairstyles. A nice, effortless-looking beachy waves  is all you need. If it’s just a simple outdoor pool party, just apply some heat protectant and you’re good to go.

Put on some waterproof makeup

So, you might think, “Why the hell would you wear makeup when you’re going to the pool?” And I say, “Why not?” Just because you’ll be soaking wet for about 95% of the time doesn’t mean you no longer have to look a bit more put together. Besides, what are waterproof makeups for?

(On my next Makeup Monday post, I’m going to talk more about my favorite pool party makeup products.)

Get rid of unwanted hair

Free your body of unwanted hair. Have your legs and other exposed skin waxed a day before the party, so you’ll be ready to flaunt them. A few pumps of Veet would do the trick.

Keep your nails clean

Dong this step will not only make you look clean and hygienic. By cutting your nails, you’ll  also avoid hurting yourself while having fun in the pool.

Prepare your other essentials

Apart from your bikini, you also need to load your tote bag with other items such as sunglasses, a stock of fresh clothes, slippers, and body lotion. If possible, you can also carry a travel hair dryer. Wear minimal jewelry as they may only fall off while you’re busy partying.

Skin-baring outfits and dips in the pool present beauty challenges. With enough preparation, you’ll be ready to make a splash and have the best time of your life.

Note: I’m starting a simple series here in my blog where I talk about different beauty issues and other women-related topics such as makeup, hair, fashion, skincare, books, and even my favorite TV series (Game of Thrones!) and movies with a different theme every day. So, yeah. Hopefully, I can keep it up. Watch out for tomorrow’s TV Thursday: Game of Thrones Season 4 Finale – “The Children.” Super excited about that one. Haha. Thanks!
