Today marks the 100th anniversary of The Battle of the Somme which took place in 1916 on both sides of upper reaches of the River Somme in France. It was the biggest battle of World War One with over 1 million people wounded or killed, and 60,000 Allies killed on the first day alone.

When Spectrecom’s Managing Director, Andrew Greener, was studying at university in 1998 he produced and directed the Film “Sixty Thousand”, alongside Company Secretary, Sarah Aynesworth, and Founding Director, Steve Milton. The film tells the story of The Battle of The Somme with interviews from young people, and an interview from Rodney Gee, who survived and lived to tell his own personal story from the battle. Extracts from letters and diaries written during the battle, now held in the Imperial War Museum, are reenacted within the film.

A moving piece that is still relevant today, the film shows an insight into life on the front line in the trenches during the battle.
