A note of appreciation

Many instructors have had an extraordinary impact on my life. Whether that be their passion for what they taught, how they presented the material, influence the decision to pursue a subject, or an occupation. Although these individuals may have a significant impact on our lives, how often do we actually say, "Thank you"? Honestly, not as much as we should. These are the ones shaping our Education and our future careers. What do they get? Not as much Appreciation as they should. Unfortunately, two key individuals in my education have Passed away preventing me from actually doing so. My Language instructor for the entirety of my elementary school education passed away a few years after I left. To hear such from my parents actually made me speechless.  To this day, I still read, write, and speak it and refuse to give it up. The specific language and culture has shaped my thoughts and desires. As I got older, the language is what I end up including in anything regardless of the subject. With the unfortunate decline of speakers, I am interested in the language's relation to revitalization programs. More recently, one who worked with the school district passed away. I also knew her since I was a child. As I got older, I had the opportunity to work alongside her - including taking a second-year language class together. I was completely shocked to read on Facebook that she was gone. It wasn't that long ago from when I saw her last. I never had the opportunity to say thank you until it was too late. Today, I thought I should begin to do so to show my appreciation. Although it is difficult to say thank you to everyone, just to say it to one person is a good approach. After the time ended for this one examination, I was the only person who did not leave yet. Upon completion, I thanked the professor, said how I felt about the course, and asked if she was teaching any the following semester because I wanted to be in her class again - even if it was a language class! In addition to the final (for now) encounter, I decided to actually write a thank-you letter to her. Instead of having years pass by and facing the possibility of not being able to contact them, I thought I should thank them for molding my interests academically and career wise. Whether it be a parent, teacher, TA, relative, etc., say thank you. You never know - and I do believe it would make one feel really well if they know how much you appreciate what they do. RF
