Radio City Christmas Spectacular 85th Anniversary Special

It’s because of fantastic shows like the Radio City Christmas Spectacular that fans go wild every time popular website TicketVistas starts offering Radio City Christmas Spectacular Tickets for a bargain. The show has become an annual tradition of sorts for the people of New York and has developed a massive fan-base since its premier back in December of 1933.

The Show

Radio City Christmas Spectacular is home to breathtaking sets, 140 jaw-dropping performers and features an original musical score and authentic costumes. This 90 minute show will surely amaze the audience who will be completely immersed in its rich and vibrant environment. It features a combination of singing, dancing and humor in a spectacular stage setting. The current edition of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular is scheduled to run from November 9th till December 31st, 2012.

The show begins with a Reindeer performing the opening track “Sleigh Ride” which is followed by the arrival of Santa Claus. At this point the audience switches to their 3-D glasses and watch Santa fly to New York City from the North Pole is his magic sleigh. Santa, with the aid of his trusty sleigh, flies around some of the most well known New York City landmarks like the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty before finally arriving at the Radio City Music Hall. From this point on Santa acts as a host and introduces various acts throughout the show.

The Rockettes

The Rockettes

The highlight of the show are the Rockettes, a women precision dance troupe which have played a vital role in the success of Radio City Christmas Spectacular. The 2012 edition of the show has been renamed The Rockettes Celebration to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the dance troupe and the 80th anniversary of the show itself.

Things really kick off when Santa Claus introduces the Rockettes to perform a dance rendition of the popular Christmas carol, “The Twelve Days of Christmas” which is followed by a scene from the beloved children’s tale The Nutcracker. A little girl appears and dreams of a Christmas morning when she gets to open her presents, and true to the book, dances with 6 feet tall toy rabbits and bears which she discovers in the gift boxes she unwrapped.

The show’s original number from 1933 “The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers” follows next which is superbly performed by the Rockettes. The toy soldier performers wear the same costumes that were designed back in 1933 by Vincente Minelli.

The Rockettes on a Double Decker

The Rockettes hit the stage once more and this time they are accompanied by a big double decker tour bus. The bus takes them to all famous New York landmarks while they sing “New York at Christmas”. The bus makes its final stop at Times square where Rockettes finish their dance routine with brilliant displays of fireworks.

Grand Finale

What follows next is the final segment of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and features a short video history of the event and the Rockettes and then proceeds to the show stopping number “Let Christmas Shine”. At this point the stage begins to glow in silver and Rockettes appear one last time dressed in costumes covered with Swarovski Crystals. The show closes by dramatizing the birth of Christ with the single “Joy to the World”.

Radio City Christmas Spectacular has made a fan out of me. If you’re a parent who wants to score big with your kids for missing their school play this is your chance.
