What are LED Light Systems & How Can that type of Lighting Aid the Environment?

A Light Emitting Diode (LED) is a kind of semiconductor light intended for a variety of functions. It is used within indicator lamps in a lot of products, office room lighting, aviation lighting, traffic signals, etc. More than that infrared LEDs are utilized in remote control systems in electronics like Television set, DVD players, etc. In a commercial sense, LEDs are used as an alternative for incandescent and CFL lamps by considering its beneficial cost savings over the conventionallighting systems.

Probably the most important advantages of LED lighting systems include its high luminous efficacy, which means how good a light source supplies visible light. More than this LEDs are energy efficient as they simply emit just a small amount or nearly no heat compared to the incandescent lighting. Allow us to consider the aspects of LEDs individually:

1. Regarding efficiency, LEDs will deliver much more light per watt input than the traditional ways of lighting. Even though overall performance of fluorescent lighting fixtures rely on its shape and size, it is of least important regarding LEDs.

2. Traditional lighting methods produce light at different colors with the assistance of color filters. However LEDs don’t need such colour filters and are better.

3. Another value is the fact that size of LEDs is usually as small as 2 mm in comparison to the older types of lighting fixtures.

4. If you want to have quick illumination for an area, it is strongly recommended to implement LED lights as they are able illuminate instantly. It is very crucial in the case of vehicle indicators that a red indicator light should gain full brightness in just a microsecond. To ensure that it can serve its purpose quickly to other drivers and thereby stop accidents.

5. People often say that LEDs emit only less degree of heat in comparison with other means of less efficient lighting. It will help you to reduce the damage caused to sensitive objects and fabrics.

6. We know that incandescent bulbs will stop operating all on a sudden without giving any sign of its imminent failure. But LEDs are not so. It will produce a dim light over time and will gradually stop its operation.

7. Another greatest benefit of LEDs is involving its life time. Its lifetime is relatively higher than that of incandescent (lifetime of only 1,000 to 2,000 hours) and fluorescent tubes. LEDs life span is more than 50,000 hours as against only 15,000 hours of Fluorescent lamps.

8. Although LEDs cost a greater amount at first, you will be able to eliminate the upkeep cost and the repeated replacement costs. Therefore in the long term LEDs will be more profitable than the low cost, low efficient traditional fluorescent, incandescent, and CFL lighting systems.

We realize that the world is stricken by Global Warming with adverse climate change. As LEDs don’t use dangerous gases like sodium or mercury, the use of LEDs can certainly decrease the additional emission level of Green House Gases which present a difficult obstacle to the existence of the Ozone layer. Therefore LED lighting systems are considered as an alternative form of energy and its advantages over the traditional lighting methods like incandescent lamps, fluorescent tubes, CFL lighting, etc.
