Cool TV -- What's HOT!

THE MORE YOU KNOW

I love television. It's part of my job to love television and to watch as much new and popular television as possible because I never know when a television job may come my way and I must be prepared. But lately, it seems there's a lot of great television to watch.

Being a freelancer has its perks. One of them is being able to watch television on down time. Thank goodness for OnDemand and Netflix...you can watch what you want, when you want. Lately, I've been tuning in to a lot of really good shows. I'm a sci-fi fan, as well as a fan of reality tv, so this summer there are quite a few options for me to chose from. These are my most favorites.

HUMANS

One of my favorites of new shows this summer is called, 'Humans,' on AMC. It's a modern present day and there are fake humans called 'Synths' doing all the menial jobs in the city and they're everywhere and in many homes. 'In the hope of transforming the way they live, one strained suburban family purchases a refurbished synth only to discover that sharing life with a machine has far-reaching and chilling consequences,' as reported by Deadline Hollywood. What they don't say is that these particular refurbished synths are not like all the others. They're different. They're special. They have the ability to think for themselves and they don't want to be slaves.

Humans aires on Sundays at 9pm on AMC.

DARK MATTER

I really like this show and it's only on episode 5! Derived from a graphic novel, the show opens with a group of 6 derelict space travelers who awaken on a ship without any memory of who they are or how they got there. And, the surprises keep on coming! It's in space and I Love the premise (though it is awfully similar to Dennis Quaid's Pandora). What more could a person ask for? After all, I don't want to give anything away.

Dark Matter aires Fridays at 10PM on SyFy

BECOMING US

Bravo is the first word that comes to mind when I think of the new ABC Family show, 'Being Me.' Not only because the subject matter is so current -- it's about a teenage boy and his life dealing with his dad becoming a woman -- but it is also important. The transitioning people on the show (two men becoming women and a teenage girl who is a boy) are brave to have their lives out there for others to learn from, but the teenage kids of the families showcased on this show are the real examples. They are articulate, funny and real, not to mention the courage it must take for them to put his or her life on screen for millions to see. Millions.

I recommend that everyone see's at least the first episode of this show. We could all learn something about seeing one another as human beings, with no regard to color, race, religion, gender, sexual preference or creed. I applaud all the young people on this show for being so open and honest about their lives. I hope it helps.

'Becoming Us' aires Mondays at 9PM on ABC Family.

ALICE AND FRANKIE

OMG...! I LOVE this show!! And, why wouldn't I? With greats like Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin doing scenes together, light or heavy, is in itself a HUGE treat. But then add some great writing, two more amazing actors -- Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston -- and a great supporting cast, this show is definitely worth watching (if you're over 40). Some young people may like it, but I think it's for us generation x'ers who are going through paces with our own parents and family. It's produced by Marta Kauffman (Friends) which makes it worth watching as far I am concerned.

'Alice and Frankie' is only on Netflix
