"When the Master came among them With his calm and Courtly Pride, And had sailed away at sundown With pale Dora for his bride;"
- The Master of the Isles, Bliss CarmanSometimes I'm looking for a way to express intangibles. Something like a certain elegance or demeanour that might intrigue people somehow, even though not concrete.
It is something I do with paintings. I think many of my paintings have a certain familiarity, like, for example, a vase with flowers is something familiar to people. But it is painted in a way that is appealing, yes, but also somehow different, maybe mysterious.
So it is with the ship captain in the poem. He returns to the small port every so often and each time he lures away another of its young residents, none of whom are ever seen again.
Like the "Master of the Isles" I may return with a new painting on a regular basis but never fear, if anyone is ever inspired by my work to create art I can assure you they won't be absconded and lost at sea!
