New exhibit RSS feed available

I have mentioned before how using WordPress has advantages over plain HTML pages. One of these advantages is that WordPress automatically provides Really Simple Syndication (RSS feeds). For years, there have been posts pronouncing RSS “dead”. But for every one of these posts, there is another like this one I read recently stating that RSS is still alive and relevant.

Thinking about focused content and the special days the Harvey Mercheum celebrates caused me to stop and consider the Mercheum Blog RSS feed. While I would really like everyone to read all of my blog posts, I realized that some people may just want to know when a new Exhibit has been posted, and not see posts like the special day announcements in their RSS feed.

I decided to investigate whether it would be possible to create an RSS feed that was just new exhibits. As it turns out, the RSS functionality built into WordPress was already doing what I needed. The Mercheum Blog posts were already assigned Categories, and RSS feeds are available for each Category.

I have added a “New Exhibit Rss Feed” link to the right navigation bar in the “Follow the Mercheum” box. I hope you, my readers, find it helpful. Do you use RSS feeds to keep up with your favorite blogs? Will you use the new exhibit feed or the whole blog feed? Leave a comment below!
