Fearne Cotton seems to have found the key to happiness – just don’t tell her that her life is perfect.
She has a successful TV career, appearing on ITV’s Celebrity Juice with her pal This Morning’s Holly Willoughby and host Keith Lemon.
Fearne also presented her own show during a ten-year stint on Radio 1. She is happily married to Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood’s son Jesse, and they have two beautiful young children.
But the former Top of the Pops presenter has had plenty of downs as well as ups. The 35-year-old has battled depression and, like many mums, knows bringing up babies is no easy ride.
Her experiences have made her wary of the kind of sweetness and light that seem to characterise photo-sharing social media sites such as Instagram.
Fearne said: “I’m guilty of looking at some people on Instagram and going, ‘God, they have got it all sorted and I seem to be struggling today.’ Of course it is rubbish, a complete fantasy.”
Fearne, who has 1.7 million Instagram followers, said: “People could be going through things not shown in that post.”
She is convinced believing everything you see online is unhealthy because no one’s life is perfect. She said: “With social media we think we know what we’re viewing and it is such a tiny portion of anyone’s thoughts, feelings and experiences. We base whole blanket opinions on people on that.”
Fearne admitted sometimes she struggles to juggle work and family life.
She said: “We all go through ups, downs, sorrow, loss, bereavement, trauma, shock, happiness, joy, elation.
“My job is fun but I’m not immune to any of those things. I go through the same stuff as everyone else but in a different way.”
In December Fearne revealed she had been diagnosed with depression a number of years ago after a particularly difficult time.
After splitting up in 2011 from her fiancé Jesse Jenkins, an American skateboarder, she “hit a very dark patch”. She said at the time: “I was diagnosed with depression. Although excruciating, this explosive yet short period of my life lead me to soul search in new ways I hadn’t before.”
