A Guide To Treat Sinus Allergies Quickly!

There are around 325 million people in the United States and a very high percentage, around 31 million suffer from chronic nose inflation. Here we’re not talking merely about an occasional allergic flare-up, but the suffering year-after-year from the effects of allergy. Those who suffer from chronic sinus inflammation would often do almost anything to relieve their symptoms. Here’s a Guide To Treat Sinus Allergies Quickly!

Treat Sinus Allergies Quickly

The cause of allergies

There can be many causes of sinus problems. Some people are just born with narrow openings in their nose that give little leeway for natural reactions to pollen, mold, pet dander and other irritants. Others may have a deviated septum or other physiological restriction to natural and easy breathing. But by far, the vast majority suffer more inflammation than their friends or family to one or more of the irritants in the environment.

What are the over-the-counter solutions to allergies?

Americans spend billions of dollars every year in an attempt to relieve their allergy symptoms. As an example, I live in Austin, Texas, which is ground zero for cedar allergies. When a well-known prescription medication gained approval from the FDA to go over-the-counter a few years ago, long-suffering residents of Austin gobbled these now over-the-counter medications so quickly it was nearly a month before local pharmacies and supermarkets could restock them.

Over-the-counter medications usually fall in the way of antihistamines or decongestants, or occasionally, both. They are mildly effective, in relieving allergy symptoms, but a great many people feel loopy or overly tired from the medication, which is why most of them have warnings on the box cautioning you to be careful while under their effects. And in case you are wondering, driving home on the freeway from work with your two-ton automobile is one of those items you should be cautious about.

 Seeing an allergist

Many people go to see their general physician when they have an outbreak of allergy symptoms, and of course, there are countless varieties, all of which do much the same thing as the over-the-counter brands. They temporarily relieve the symptoms. But what if your allergies are nearly constant or they go away temporarily but come back again and again?

Sooner or later, most people who have persistent sinus problems consult an allergist. Once you’ve met with an allergist, he or she will often run minute skin tests on hundreds of pollens, pet danders and molds to see which particular factors in the environment are causing you the greatest degree of inflammation.

Once the skin inflammation tests are complete, the allergist will most frequently recommend Allergy Drops or allergy injections.

Allergy drops, in particular, contain small amounts of the particular pollen, mold or dander that are giving you the most problems. Much like an immunization shot for measles as an example, the idea is that by giving you doses that contain your inflammation irritant, the body gradually builds up a resistance to that irritant.

How effective are allergy drops or injections?

While some patients react well to allergy drops or injections, sadly it takes a minimum of 12 weeks to get relief, and in most cases a patient must be on the maintenance dose for up to a year before noticing significant relief, and the current, total recommendation is for a patient to take the drops or injections for three to five years! Consequently, allergy drops or injections are a long, slow process.

In fact, a Reuters article pointed out that of those sinus sufferers who consulted an allergist, only 36 percent of them elected to proceed to allergy drops or injections, and of those who did go for drops or injections, close to 50 percent of them failed to continue with the therapy for the full, recommended term.

Sinuplasty, the better, quicker solution.

Since 2005, over 500,000 sinus sufferers worldwide, tired of medications, allergy drops, and injections have elected to undergo Sinuplasty.

What is it? Much like angioplasty where arteries to the heart are enlarged, here a surgeon inserts a small medical balloon into the nose, which expands the sinus cavities allowing the nose to drain much more effectively.

The operation takes around 70 minutes and is relatively painless while under a general anesthetic. Patients often describe a slight burning sensation but the discomfort is minimal seeing as to how elderly patients undergo the procedure as easily as their younger peers.

Postoperative symptoms are primarily a bloody discharge which goes away within 24 hours and most patients can return to work within two days. And following surgery, 95 percent of patients reported a significant reduction in their sinus symptoms several months after their surgery.

Is it permanent?

The answer depends primarily on the extent of the sinus disease in the patient, but in the overwhelming majority of cases, yes.

Is it safe?

Correction of sinus problems through the use of a surgical balloon has been consistently practiced worldwide since 2005 and while there is a certain amount of risk involved with any surgery, the fact that the procedure is done on children, as well as adults, should clue you into risks.
