Global temperatures set new records in 2016

U.S. government agencies have confirmed on Wednesday that World temperatures hit a Record increase for the third year in 2016.

These temperature trends set for global warming and caused record heat in India and ice melt in the Arctic. The statistics was issued two days before the swearing in of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump who questions whether climate change is a human cause.

The Greenland Ice Sheet

According to the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the average surface temperatures recorded 0.94 degrees Celsius (1.69 degrees Fahrenheit) over land and the oceans in 2016.

U.S. space agency NASA also reported same data. While the UK Met Office and University of East Anglia also called 2016 ‘the hottest year on record’.

Temperatures trends of 2016, lifted by man-made greenhouse gases and El Nino event beat the previous record set in 2015.

Gavin Schmidt, director of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies said that we are not expecting that every year will be record year but the ongoing long-term global warming trend is clear.

Piers Forster, climate expert at the University of Leeds has said this year might be to be cooler because a major volcanic eruption can dim the sunlight.

NATURAL DISASTERS

The costliest natural disaster in Canada’s history was wildfires in Alberta among last year’s extreme weather events.

Last year was also warmest in North America. While the Great Barrier Reef of Australia severely damaged from rising temperatures. Sea ice in Arctic Ocean and Antarctica is at record lows for mid-January.

Mark Maslin, Professor of Climatology at University College London said the hottest year on record is a clear warning alarm that even President-elect Trump cannot ignore it.
