One of the oldest colleges of Chandigarh, the Post Graduate Government College for Girls (PGGCG) Sector 11 has post graduate and doctorate programmes. Spread over 30 acres, the campus offers 14 postgraduate courses and 38 undergraduate courses with 340 subject combinations.




The Post Graduate Government College for Girls started its journey in 1956 with the motto ‘courage to know’. The college has acclaimed All India Rank 21 by India Today-2017 and Rank 1 among city colleges in science. It has got Rs 1 crore RUSA grant by the HRD ministry and also received Rs 80 lakh grant from the DST, Government of India, under the FIST programme for the enhancement of science and technology infrastructure. It has been adopted by the CSIO/CSIR for boosting scientific research.

From this session that is 2017-18 The Post Graduate Government College for Girls, PGGCG – 11 is introducing PhD in Chemistry, music and dance.

PGGCG – 11 is the only college in the Chandigarh city to provide certificate course in office management under the Chandigarh Administration’s initiative on women empowerment. During the last academic session, 531 students received 32 scholarships amounting to more than Rs 15 lakh.




The college infrastructure includes smart classrooms, research centres, laboratories, conference room, a seminar room, central instrumentation centre, a recreation centre, day-care centre, gymnasium, 3 hostels with capacity of 6oo students and a fourth hostel which will accommodate 400 students, is likely to get start this year.

The college library is completely computerized with LIBSYS software and has a collection of more than 93,889 books, 27 newspapers, 122 magazines and journals in various subjects. It also provides free internet facility to students and access to online journals and books. The Post Graduate Government College for Girls also focuses on extra curricular activities and has been the overall winner at the zonal youth festival for four consecutive years. PGGCG is known to be one of the best colleges of Chandigarh for the graduation and post graduation courses.
