Toxic Romance

Toxic Romance is something that all of us are familiar with. Whether it’s from personal experience, the never-ending slew of romance films on our Netflix queue or just plain old Lifetime movies, we kind of have an idea. It’s wanting to be with someone or loving someone despite the person potentially not being the best for you. From the outside looking in, it’s so easy to give advice to our friends and tell them: “Just dump ____,” “You can do so much better,” and so many other common sayings but it’s easy to say that when you’re not emotionally involved.

Because at the end of the day,  Selena Gomez said it best when said, “The Heart Wants What It Wants.” If you haven’t heard the song, I recommend checking out the video below:

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a Music Video that logically related to the concept of the song and this one goes above and beyond. Selena is amazing in a black-and-white music video where you see her internal struggle over her toxic romance. From the smeared tears in her eyes as she faces the camera, to the laughing and smiling while she’s with her love and remembering all the good days – it’s obvious that the relationship has its constant ups and downs.

I really enjoy the fact that although we can assume it reflects a toxic relationship, and this post even concentrates on that – it’s not necessarily true. The depiction could easily represent the struggles of any regular relationships where there’s love, laughter and smiling but also arguments, disagreements and even tears.
