Paul Costelloe reflects on his Irish heritage for AW18 at London Fashion Week

Paul Costelloe reflects on his Irish heritage in both his womens and menswear AW18 collections at London Fashion Week.

The Irish-born designer whose grandparents arrived in New York in the 1870s, taps on leaving homelands in search of a new life and dreams in America.

The collection includes a story on connections between the two countries, unveiled at a show and presentation.

Key highlight pieces feature plaid tweeds from Magee of Ireland's County Donegal as well as the tailoring powerhouse of the English county of Yorkshire.

The British and Irish narrative is worked into full-length coats and high-waisted trousers that echo classic American styling of the 50s.

Distressed jacquards from Lanificio di Sordevolo in the Italian Alpine province of Biella add to this international offering.

The collection also features custom designed prints from a member of the second generation of the Paul Costelloe design house, William Costelloe.

Paul employs texture as a key tool for juxtaposition and contrast.

The undulating fibres of tweed and flannel herringbones are offset by the luxurious softness of velvet for men's double-breasted waistcoats in dark burgendies, while shirting lift the looks with paisley and floral prints in bold hues of red, navy and purple.

Long dresses with tight tailoring are emblematic of the Paul Costelloe DNA and are complimented by beautiful knitwear with voluminous sleeves.

Layering and big volumes carry through in dresses and coats and feature hand-embroidered detailing that add a further eye-catching element to the collection.

Tones swim from rich navies and chocolate browns are contrasted with bold early autumnal elements.

A striking collection delving into the designer's heritage with striking lines and enchanting looks.
