The Orlando Magic plan to offer Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin a job to become the team’s new President of Basketball Operations, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reports. The offer would come once the Cavs’ season ends:

The Magic can engage Griffin in contract talks at the end of the Cavs’ season, sources said.

Griffin’s contract with Cleveland is up after the season, and he and the team have not held meaningful discussions on an extension. However, he could still remain with the Cavs on a new deal, sources said.

David Griffin and the Cavaliers have struggled to find common ground on an extension in recent months, which had led to an increasing belief among league executives that Griffin could leave the organization this summer, according to The Vertical.

Griffin intrigues Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins and several top Magic officials, the same report stated.

Orlando fired general manager Rob Hennigan earlier this month after a five-year stint with the team. Their broad search for president may be focused on David Griffin for now, but certainly isn’t limited to him.

David Griffin was hired as the Cavs’ general manager in 2014 and played a key role in constructing the 2016 championship squad that defeated Golden State in seven games, bringing Cleveland its first ever NBA title.
