Strange but true scenes from CES 2013 Consumer Electronics Show

The 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show recently wrapped up in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show drew in excess of 150,000 attendees from every corner of the globe.  The show never fails to provide both inventions and displays which prove the unlimited breadth and depth of the human imagination. From a life size tree constructed from laptop computers, to an FDA approved self-propelled robot which can assist doctors, to an electronic monitor which tells plant growers exactly what their plants need, when they need it, the 2013 edition of the CES had its share of delightful and dazzling electronic offerings.

One of the most Attention grabbing gadgets at CES 2013 was a Printer. Yes, a printer. However, MakerBot’s Replicator is not an average, run-of-the-mill printer. In fact, it doesn’t require paper. The Replicator is a 3-D printer which uses a spool of plastic to replicate almost any item, regardless of its dimensions, out of a spool of plastic. Predicted to revolutionize the manufacturing industry, the Replicator can quickly churn out common items like door knobs and shower curtain rings, right up to works of art like sculpture.

Even though Electronics giant Apple continued its tradition as a CES no-show, the company’s was indirectly represented on the show floor by an area designated as the “iLounge,” where vendors displayed their latest accessories for the iPhone and iPad. Despite Apple’s continued absence, there was no shortage of interesting and imaginative sights to be seen. LG’s massive 3-D video wall, which literally stopped attendees in their tracks, was heavily scrutinized and proved to be a crowd favorite. LG employees were kept busy distributing the 3-D glasses required to enjoy the display to its fullest.

Web site CRN.com offers a slide show of some unique aspects of the CES 2013, including one display that garnered much attention even though it was completely tech free. Visit the recap here.
