Sacred Games, Netflix’s first Indian original series, was a phenomenal success. Based on a novel by the same name, the series premiered on July 6 to much critical acclaim. Well, there is no way to assess its commercial success, but the assumption is that it did well on those grounds too. The series was directed jointly by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap, with the former taking care of filming Saif Ali Khan’s scenes and the latter filming with Nawazuddin Siddiqui. This was done to “save time,” Anurag had earlier told us in an interview. Well, the buzz about a season 2 of the series began on July 7 itself but there has been no confirmation about the same from the makers. In fact, reports claimed that Vikramaditya won’t be returning to the director’s chair.

“Vikram was under a lot of pressure while shooting. That is why I don’t think he enjoyed it. It may be premature to say it right now but he may not be directing the second season,” Saif Ali Khan had told News18 in an interview.

Today, as Vikram begins the promotions of his next production venture for Netflix, Ghoul, we ran the query by him. During our conversation, Vikramaditya said that he did not expect the monumentally positive reaction to Sacred Games. “I was immensely surprised by the reaction Sacred Games. I didn’t think it will be as big as it was, which actually went on to show that there is a massive audience, that actually watches stuff on Netflix,” Vikram said at one point.

“Yet reports suggest that you will no be on board with Sacred Games season 2,” we asked.

“First of all, we don’t know if there is going to be a season 2,” he chuckled, adding, “But, no, no, I am very much on board!”

Well, the first half of the statement doesn’t seem like good news, but the second half does. Maybe we will get concrete answers at the right time.
