It’s almost magical to watch the transition as he takes on every role that comes his way. ‘His’ versatility has no bounds. From a con man to a drummer to a man with amnesia to a blind man – ‘He’ has done it all. Apart from his talent, his charm and swag we love. As a fan myself, can’t get enough of it! ‘He’ has been in the industry for 29 years, yet he continues to reign. We are talking about the iconic Malayalam superstar – Mohanlal – The complete actor. Today is this veteran artist’s birthday. On this special day, when we look back at this particular star’s journey, we can’t help but be in awe. His sheer talent, skill has taken him places. He has made us laugh, made us cry, moved us, made us applaud. He has evoked every emotion there was. Randamoozham- Rs 1000 crore project – It was ten days before the Baahubali: The Conclusion’s release that a big announcement was made. A UAE businessman was ready to invest Rs 1000 Crore in Randamoozham, a movie based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s book by the same title. This is the biggest project any industry has known of till date, and Mohanlal is part of it! He will play playing Bheeman character as the book is told from his perspective. The film will go on floors in 2018 and be wrapped up by 2020. The film will be directed by Sreekumar Menon. The rest of the cast and crew is yet to be finalized. After being the industry for more than two decades, the superstar bags not only the biggest project of his career but the biggest of all time. First Rs 100 crore win in the Malayalam industry – In 2016,  Mohanlal made history when his much-talked about film, Pulimurugan became the first ever Malayalam film to earn Rs 100 crore at the box office worldwide. No other Malayalam actor has managed this feat. The film was lauded for its compelling visuals, its well-choreographed action sequences and Mohanlal’s portrayal as the Puli Murugan. National Award Winner – He has won the prestigious award not once but two times, for his powerful performances in two movies – Bharatham and Vanaprastham. His poignant, powerful performance as an ordinary brother of a famous singer is soul-stirring. In Vanaprastham, he gets into the skin of the character of a Kathakali dancer.

Success across multiple industries – Mohanlal is one of those rare actors who has seen success across multiple industries. Remember Ram Gopal Varma’s Company? He was also part of Mani Ratnam ‘s Tamil drama – Iruvar. Last year, he returned to Tollywood with Janatha Garage and Vismayam.  The former earned Rs 100 crore within 5 days.

Conferred with Lieutenant Colonel: He is the only actor to be felicitated with the honorary rank of the Lieutenant Colonel in the territorial army of India in 2009.
