Such soulful eyes. Along with thousands of other people, I became captivated by April the Giraffe who was due to give birth any minute....for about two months. It is hard to pinpoint exactly when a giraffe will give birth and they had a camera fixed on her every move every day. I found myself watching for hours. I realized that it was kind of like meditation being so focused and there was no sound. There were many times when everyone thought it had to be time because she had all the signs but there were many false alarms. When it did happen, it was well worth the wait. Giraffes stand the whole time and hide their discomfort because in the wild, they could be attacked and their baby eaten. And we think we have it rough! Taj arrived being almost six feet tall and under 100 pounds. He was standing within the hour. Incredible. I now have a much greater appreciation for these beautiful faces and how majestic and strong they really are!
