President Trump has unveiled his budget plan for the country, and it has left many with an online MBA degree scratching their heads. The budget proposal will abolish or severely cut many of the programs that are available for low income Americans. This means that their housing, job training, banking, energy aid assistance and legal counsel options will all be affected.
Who Will Be Affected?
During the 2016 Presidential Campaign, Trump repeatedly stated that he believed the best way to end poverty was to give poor people an incentive get a job. However, most of the budget cuts he has proposed will directly target programs that are designed to help the jobless and working poor in the country make ends’ meet. These programs distribute money to all of the states, and the states establish how the funds will be given out.
Many with MBA information technology degrees have expressed concern that this budget will essentially pull the rug out from many of the working families, and it will negatively affect the people President Trump promised to help. These are individuals who are living in rural areas.
In fact, the budget cuts are projected to affect those areas the most. It is in these areas that most families are living from one pay check to the next. These are the areas of the country that Trump won, some by as many 25 percent more than comparable urban areas.
Housing Reform
The budget is also proposing ‘reforms’ in the housing sector. These reforms will account for almost $6 billion in cuts, but it is also promising to continue providing the five million low income homes in the country with assistance. If this part of the budget is enacted, it will be the most drastic cut made to HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development) since the Reagan era in the 1980s.
This cut will also symbolize the end of the US Interagency Council on Homelessness. This agency coordinates with other federal agencies to quickly respond to emergencies that result in homelessness around the country.
A wide range of other programs will be affected, including those that are not directly related to housing. For example, Meals on Wheels, a non-profit that is nationwide and delivers food to low income and homebound seniors.
The White House boasts that these cuts are a way for the country to become more fiscally responsible. However, critics have stated that it cuts federal funding for housing.
Other Drastic Cuts Proposed
Over $35 million would be gone for nationally and internationally known programs like Habitat for Humanity, Home Investment Partnership Program, and YouthBuild USA. Many officials stated that the workers left for home after hearing the news feeling worried and demoralized. They, along with MBA online graduates, feel as though the cuts were very arbitrary and unnecessary.
The unemployed, the forgotten and the underprivileged have often felt forgotten in this country. Many of their supporters hope the budget is rejected by the Congress when it comes up for a vote.
