About Kasaragod

Kasaragod is the northernmost District of Kerala and world renowned for its coir and hand loom industries. The district has a coastline of around 293 kilometers and that why the livelihood of Kasaragod people mainly depends on fisheries. The district is popular with the forts, rivers, hillocks, beaches and shrines here. Several folk arts like Theyyam, Kolkali, poorakkali, mangalam kali, maruthkali, Yakshagana, Oppana, Kolkalli, Dauf muttal, Mogral etc are originated and nourished in this region. Kasaragod town lies on the path of NH-17. It is well connected by road to Cannanore (Kannur), Bengaluru, Mangalore, Calicut etc. Kasaragod is well connected by rail to parts of India such as Trivandrum, Kochi, Calicut, Cannanore, Mangalore, Goa, Surat, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Jammu Tawi, Kanyakumari etc. through domestic and express trains. Nearest Airport is at Mangalore, which is 50 kilometers away. The airport Karipur, Kozhikode is 220 kilometers away.
