HANDECEN reveals new designs for 2010/11

In a bid to extend new markets for Nepali Handicrafts, Handicraft Design and Development Center (HANDECEN)- an undertaking of Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal (FHAN), unveiled new designs and trends for the year 2010/11.

Recently, HANDECEN completed three joint projects along with the government on Silver Jewellery, pashmina and Handmade Paper. According to FHAN vice-president Kiran Dangol, the Ministry of Industries granted Rs 1.5 million through Micro Development Fund for these three projects.

The design development of pashmina products and silver jewellery were respectively completed in six months and three months. Similarly, HANDECEN conducted 40-day training on Handmade paper product design.

Tara Adhikari, a handmade paper concept designer, explained that the Nepali handicraft designs are getting repeated in the international market, thereby lessening choices for American and European importers, and so innovative designs have been introduced this year so as to retain its competitive edge.
