Enthusiasts and Pros Talk Design at Dwell Event, June 23-25

It’s almost June and time for 100,000 square feet of concrete at the heart of Los Angeles to open into an expansive three-day event showcasing all there is to see and learn about the present and future of design. Dwell on Design is spending its 12th year at the Los Angeles Convention June 23 through 25, featuring over 300 new and returning exhibitors—including leading industry brands like Benjamin Moore and Build.com—over 30 onstage demonstrations and presentations, the return of the LA Home Tours and “Meet the Architects” night, and featured speaker Sir David Adjaye.

Every year, the editors at Dwell magazine collaborate to curate what has become the premiere design event in America. Tour popular prefab homes on the show floor, explore a gallery of cutting-edge designs from artists and industrial designers alike, or just shape your experience around learning all you can from the top minds in the field. With an equal focus on providing interaction with innovative new products and brands and educational programming for industry pros and enthusiasts alike, it is truly a unique event.

Two of Dwell’s most interesting elements will be returning in 2017: LA Home Tours and “Meet the Architects”. These unique experiences are offered as a separate ticketed event, apart from the actual show, where design lovers will have the opportunity to tour several homes in the LA area selected by Dwell for their individual architectural and design value. It begins on Thursday with an intimate, cocktail hour-style chat with the architects who designed the featured homes as they discuss their challenges and successes. The tours themselves will take place during Saturday and Sunday afternoons, so if you’re interested, make sure to plan your show schedule accordingly.

Dwell on Design 2017 is going to see a restructuring of the event’s content platform. This year’s five major pillars of content—Technology/Smart Home, Health and Wellness/Aging, Urban Space/Densification, Resiliency, and Business of Design—will be presented in a wider variety of formats, ranging from more intimate fire-side chats and snapshot 30-minute sessions to hour-long deep discussion panels and onstage presentations and demonstrations. A new series of Featured Speakers will also be making appearances for their own onstage events throughout the show.

Sir David Adjaye is one of the featured speakers who will be presenting at Dwell on Design this year, along with esteemed architecture critic for the LA Times, Christopher Hawthorne. Adjaye is an architect known for his sensibility and vision as an artist. His firm’s many prestigious commissions have produced amazing work, including the Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo, and more recently, the brand new Smithsonian Institute National Museum of African American History and Culture that opened in Washington D.C. this past fall. Don’t miss his presentation on Friday, June 23!

The best part about the whole event? It isn’t a trade show limited to only industry professionals. In fact, over 30 percent of 20,000 attendees last year were design enthusiasts and consumers. So, hurry up and secure your spot in this immersive, three-day discussion on design before tickets are sold out!
