Story

Based on real life events, Uri: The Surgical Strike is a movie which brings to life an entire series of surgical strikes which happened during one of the most intense times in Indian history. Tracing the journey of both the Indian and Pakistani armies.  Uri also traces the journey of the man who led the strikes. This movie is to the point and precise, bringing to life what went on during the surgical strikes.

Review

What makes this  war film stand out so well is how the movie was made through the eyes of the protagonist, Major Vihaan Singh Shergill (played by Vicky Kaushal.) The two sequential attacks are not shown, but given a visual and verbal appearance. While the first attack on India was shown through the sounds of bullets and the shouts of the soldiers, the retaliation by the Indian Army is depicted through the sounds of thumping music.

Drawing strong parallels from what truly happened during the 2016 surgical strikes, Dhar uses all the right kind of visual effects, making a strong impact on the person watching the film. Through all the chaos in the film, Dhar delivers a lasting message with hard hitting dialogues like, “unhe Kashmir chaihye, humein unka sar.” Sticking to the theme of being patriotic to the very last end, Dhar does justice to the way the Indian Army fought for the Country.

Mapping not just the war but also the personal struggles of Major Vihaan, Uri tugs strongly at your heartstrings.  At one point, a scene shows a soldier singing one moment and dying the next, another scene shows a daughter bidding a tearful farewell to her father by shouting out his war cry. With no major romantic story to its name, Dhar’s Uri tells a tale which is marred with controversies.

A moving story with some really well done scenes, Uri: The Surgical Strike tells quite an intriguing  tale. A stirring and moving  narration, perhaps the only thing which goes against it is the fact, there isn’t enough tension building throughout. However, Vicky Kaushal and the rest of the cast are at the top of their game, making watching the entire film an entertaining experience.
