7th - Richie Cannata's Open Mic Jam
The Bitter End NYC
Richie Cannata's Mon Night Open Mic Jam with Friends started in the late 80's on a Wed. night at the China Club when the club was on west 75th and Broadway in NYC. It was called the "Pro Jam". The band was called Cat Lingo and Cannata co- hosted it with Julio Fernandez and Judy Tint was the host during the night. It developed into the most sought after live music event in the city for many years. We had major artists from all over the world come in and jam. The jam went through many changes as Julio and I both went on the road. I went out with Billy Joel and The Beach Boys and Julio with Spyro Gyra and when they came back it moved from club to club in the city. Bobby Nathan then took it over at The Triad and eventually it moved it to The Le Bar Bat. From there cannata took it over again and formed a new band with John, Chris, George and Jim with Lisa as the host and singer and started it at an east side club called Decade. They soon moved it over to The Cutting Room ,where it remained for five years, Kevin Bregande came in drums and Benny Harrison on keys The jam then found a new home at The Bitter End. Richie Cannata - Sax, Host / Benny Harrison - Keys, Vocals / Frosty Lawson- Trumpet, Flugelhorn and List Organizer, Vocals / Jim Moran - Guitar, Vocals.
