Lakes of Arunanchal Pradesh

The easternmost state of India, Arunachal Pradesh, is called India’s ‘land of rising sun’.It is also called as the ‘Orchid State’ of India because of its diverse flora and fauna.  This largest Indian state of northeast stretches from snow-laden mountains in the north to the Brahmaputra valley in the south.  The bordering countries of Arunachal Pradesh are China, Bhutan in the west and Myanmar in the east.

Ganga Lake is popularly known as GekerSinying in Arunachal Pradesh.  It is located six kilometres from the capital of the state at Itanagar.  Renowned for its lush green surrounding, the Ganga Lake has unique topography.  The forest in the vicinity comprises of fern, towering groves and a stretch of orchids.  The surreal beauty of this oval-triangular shaped lake flows at the foothills of outer Himalayan ranges.  The green pearl of water body is a major attraction amongst the tourists.  The peaceful ambience of Ganga Lake allows them to rejuvenate.  Boating and swimming are the prime activities tourists prefer to indulge in.

Lake of No Return

As mysterious as it may sound, the ‘Lake of No Return’ happens to be one the major appeals of Arunachal Pradesh that have tourists flocking here throughout the year.   The lake earned its peculiar name from an incident that took place during World War II when the Allied forces had to make an emergency landing where the crew members vanished into the lake.  Several myths associated with the lake continued to keeps its reputation as ‘The Bermuda Triangle of India’.  However, some couldn’t find any truth in the old folk tales about the lake.  Another name of this lake is ‘Nawngxyang’ which is also a home to Tangsa tribe.  The lake is at the prime location on the border of Arunachal Pradesh, India and Myanmar near the Pangsau village.  It is two and half kilometres away from Ledo Road. ‘Lake of No Return’ is continuously contributing towards the revenue earned from tourism.  The audacious travelers have the urge to unravel the mystery of the lake and live to tell the tales.

SangestarTso Lake

The town of Tawang boasts profoundly about its high altitude Himalayan Lake – SangestarTso Lake.  It is located on the north eastern part of India perching at a height of 16,500 feet above sea level near Indo-China border.  You would catch a glimpse of this majestic lake on your way to Bum La Pass in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh.   The beauty of this lake is escalated as it witnesses heavy snow throughout the year.  This off-beat tourist spot happens to rather popular because of its natural wilderness and serenity.  The interesting fact about this lake is that it has occupied the hearts of Buddhists who consider this place sacred.  Walking in a clockwise motion, with cool pine scented breeze and the fluttering of fringed flags is absolutely mystical.
