Madurai – MEENAKSHI AMMAN TEMPLE:

The Madurai is one of the ancient places in India. The most popular of all attractions in Madurai is Meenakshi Temple. This temple stands as a brilliant sculpture art that existed in India. Built on an acreage span 15 acres, the temple is a place with activity all the time- you can spot pilgrims as well as tourists. Some interesting features of the temple are the hall of thousand pillars where viewing from any angle will make us see all the pillars in a straight line and musical pillars are also there which when tapped it will produce a musical sound. The Meenakshi Temple is an important place in South Indian temples, This will the focal point of Madurai. The temple complex has 4,500 pillars and 12 towers. You could easily spend days there, as it’s a “living temple” with a lot going on inside, including a constant stream of couples waiting to be married in its corridors. THIRUMALAI NAYAK PALACE:

Next, the most popular attraction in Madurai is Thirumalai Nayakkar Palace. It was built by king Thirumalai Nayakkar in the year 1636. In Indo-Saracenic style with tall arches holding the palace. Being the residence to the king, only one-fourth of the actual structure is available. Efforts have been made for the renovation of the palace. Tirumalai Nayak Palace is Madurai’s one of the biggest attraction. The king Thirumalai Nayak built it his residential palace in 1636, with the input of an Italian architect structure. PUTHU MANDAPAM:

St. MARY CATHEDRAL:

One of the oldest Catholic churches in India, Saint Mary’s mother was first constructed in 1840 although the present structure was built in 1916. Its architecture, featuring two tall bell towers, blends various European and Continental styles. You will be surely amazed to know that the church has been constructed in the blending of various architectural styles together- European, Roman. Don’t forget to see those place and your eyes upon the tall and beautiful bell towers constructed in Roman architectural style.

BANANA MARKET:

Madurai’s wholesale banana market is an amazing place to visit. Actually here, 16 varieties of bananas are sold in the market! They arrive, grouped together on branches, by the cartload. Using of the load workers are unload them and carry them inside, up to half of a dozen branches at a time. There’s a vegetable market also there! next to the banana market.

MURUGAN IDLI SHOP:

Another destination to explore Tamil food culture! Murugan Idli shop is an important place for the ones who love to explore a place gastronomically. The shop is with a good decent looking with the good ambiance and caring the customers very well. they contain many types of dosa and then they provide different types of chutneys also. This food will be very spicy and then they will give you a new experience.

GANDHI MEMORIAL  MUSEUM:

This museum is one of the five Gandhi museums in India. It was established in 1959 and an elaborate collection of illustrations – illustrations to show how the Indian freedom struggle and pictorial gallery depicting the life of Mahatma Gandhi. The museum also has lots of specimen handicrafts from the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Kerala. You can also find the personal belongings and things of Gandhi like his spectacles, shawl and also the bloodstained Dhoti that he was wearing when he was assassinated by the goatse.

THIRUPARANKUNDRAM:

Situated at 10 km from south of Madurai city is Thiruparankundram which is first of the six abodes temples of Murugan. It has the ancient temple of Lord Murugan. where pilgrims come in large numbers of peoples such that it is second only among the most visited places of Madurai. Apart from this, you can also visit Tirupparankunram Dargah nestled atop Tirupparankunram Hill which has been taken care of by the successive generations of the same family who they maintained in the past.

KEELAKUYILKUDI AND SEMINAR HILLS:

It’s placed on the north of Vilachery, Keelakuyilkudi village is also worth visiting for its collection of painted mud horses and Jain sculptures. The mud horses, located in the village temple, are donated by potters from Vilachery village at the village festival every year. You’ll be rewarded with ancient rock-cut sculptures of Jain deities and an amazing view over the countryside. Go early in the morning or evening though, otherwise, you’ll get hot! due to the summer.

VILACHERY POTTERY HOUSE:

On the town of Madurai, not far from Thiruparankundram, about 200 families in the village, an interesting village of Vilachery craft small idols like festivals of Lord Ganesh for Ganesh Chaturthi and kolu bommai’s dolls for Navaratri out of clay.
