An old tradition was that young and unmarried girls would wake up before dawn and try to spot the man who would become their husband in future. According to tradition, the man they first saw in the pre-dawn hours would be the one they would get married to within the year.

A very interesting tradition in South Africa is that women write down the name of their love on a piece of paper and pin it on their sleeve, literally wearing their hearts on their sleeves! This is thought to be one of the best ways in which men can find out which woman admires them.
